Microsoft Project Natick

I've been following the submerged datacenter of Microsoft for some time now, but only today I noticed that the project has ended. Project Natick contributed quite some resources to WCG, so it might be of interest to you as well.

The underwater datacenter was a test and so far, these are the key findings they gathered:

  • Reliability: The servers in Natick Northern Isles showed a failure rate of 1/8th that of our land-based control group.
  • Community Service: Natick was used to perform COVID-19 research for Folding at Home and World Community Grid.
  • Recycling: The steel pressure vessel, heat exchangers, servers, and all other components will be recycled.
  • Sea bed: The sea bed is being restored to the same state it was in before we deployed.

See the links below for some more information about their efforts.

Re: Microsoft Project Natick

The Natick account is still returning a few dozen results a day. yay
But yes, looks like it stopped at the end of June.

9465 years, definitely a nice contribution.
