New hardware old BOINC directory

My old computer died several months ago and I just have got the new one up and running.

The downside is that I restored the old BOIND directory and the new results are being reported under the old computer profile. It's updated the system's name too.

The two systems were very different The old was an Intel i7-3990k CPU, the new an AMD Ryzen 9 3900k) -- same video card.

Should this be of any concern?

Re: New hardware old BOINC directory

Hi lohphat,
I did the same several times in the past without changing the computer name.
As soon as boinc restart without failure and WCG projects are computed, you will only have to wait to notice if the results are valid or not.
Normally everything should run fine and within the next hours, you will see that the new system properties will be gathered and correctly reported.
Afterwards it is helpful to run a CPU benchmark.
If you notice a lot of invalid results, even after several days (I did experience this once), you should stop boinc to accept new work. As soon as all WUs are computed and reported, you should detach WCG and reboot the system. If everything is OK, you can reattach WCG and setting boinc to re-accept new work.
Hopefully, it could help you.
Enjoy your new machine,
Yves

Praise the Lord Techs, not even the projects that have a device merge function can pull 2 different CPU based devices together. Guess you can count yourself lucky (in a way).

Re: New hardware old BOINC directory

Lavaflow,
over the last 13 years, I performed the mentioned process several time, even moving from Windows to Linux. Excepted a couple of invalid results at the transition time, I did not have more problem. Only once, I had to detach and re-attach the project. I was not able to explain why and probably the problem did exist prior the hardware upgrade.
Cheers,
Yves
