Re: By how much would you need to multiply current WCGrid computing capacity so that a Client cannot download a WU

OOPS! citing Bill F
https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg...ead,42607_offset,0#632974

No offence taken on any language.

Since we are talking volunteers, I wonder how many quit WCG (if any) because of all the problems in the last year.
WCG lost A LOT of volunteers, specially a lot of long time loyal ones. But it doesn't look like anyone in Toronto really cares...

Re: By how much would you need to multiply current WCGrid computing capacity so that a Client cannot download a WU

WCG lost A LOT of volunteers.
Unfortunate. I get the frustration but I kept my machines filled during that time by using other projects like Tn-Grid which has now run dry. I started there at the bottom and am now in position 69 worldwide; third in Canada.

Did any come back?

It would be interesting to know how much other projects benefited during the WCG downtime.

Enough on some projects to periodically run them dry.

Re: By how much would you need to multiply current WCGrid computing capacity so that a Client cannot download a WU

Is it known how many active volunteers there are on WCG? I see no stats anywhere on that.

Are there other medicine related projects out there? Even now WCG runs dry temporarily. Yesterday, at 23:28:23 EDT, my 24 core machine was running only 4 tasks. So I gave Rosetta a try. Dry. Tn-Grid is dry also so I turned on Sidock and I don't really want to for now. First, their tasks are 1.5 days long and secondly they are are on the blacklist but the machines need feeding.

Well, the folks at WCG are wearing rose-colored glasses and assume somewhat more optimistic numbers...

Re: By how much would you need to multiply current WCGrid computing capacity so that a Client cannot download a WU

If you sum up all regions (World Community Grid stats), you get the number: 117,805.
Yes, there is a big discrepancy between the previous number and 23,409. The percentage goes to about 1/5 my previous estimations, then: 0.134% for one download at a time or 3.2% for 24 downloads at a time.

Yes, World Community Grid could/should be more precise about the labeling of the stats to avoid these doubts. I would argue that the number of active users stats should come before the total number of user stats, as the former is a much more relevant statistic than the latter.
And perhaps 2 months is too much time to show a granular idea of what is happening, except if you need to take into account that people might want not to crunch during summertime (in this case, 2 months is actually too little).

It´s a bit bizarre! If you didn´t have told me about the decrease in number of members, I wouldn´t have known about it yet. What reasons explain this? The maintenance from World Community Grid? Inflation? Climate change worries? Other reasons?

DENIS@home but it also has periods of time without work available. https://denis.usj.es/denisathome/

That's probably the total number of accounts, active and inactive. It used to be larger but then WCG began deleting accounts after a certain period of time passed since the last login because of GDPR.
