Hi,
----------------------------------------I suggest to permit to use an existing device profile like a model for a new profile. For example, it will help to use some project on old computer, other projects on newest computer, on computer constantly working or used only few hours per week. You can use the same profile for multiple devices or use different profiles for multiple devices.

This is not the ultimate answer that member bidon was looking for, but ...
By default, there are four profiles to choose from: Default, home, school, work. However, it's possible to create more profiles. You could create a new profile and call it, e.g. 'example'. Steps to do in your browser: 0. Make sure you're logged into World Community Grid (e.g. surf to your Device Profiles). 1. Open this 'example' profile here: example 2. Optionally: make modifications to it. 3. Save this profile by clicking the Save button. Presto! "Your device profile has been successfully updated. Please note that your profile changes will be updated on the World Community Grid agent the next time the agent communicates with the World Community Grid servers." Now go to your WCG page with the Device Profiles and find your new profile there. |

This undocumented feature carries one problem with it being it is only known to work at WCG. No idea what the consequence for 3rd party stats aggregators and BAM is.

If I did not understand your question/suggestion, please reply. I know that i can use different profile, but i want to create new profiles with the same parameters of an existing one in order to modify only one or two parameter. For example, one profile for old computer or computer which run only few hours per week in order to forbid then to ask big project like ARP. This is not the ultimate answer that member bidon was looking for, but ... By default, there are four profiles to choose from: Default, home, school, work. However, it's possible to create more profiles. Much better, thanks. Unfortunate that there is no button to create a profile with the chosen name and possibility to import parameters from an existing profile. It can help many people to set different type of device. |

If you read the history, it is undocumented and techs said it would remain so, tolerated long as it not creating issues. As I noted, this has potential conflict issues with cross project compatibility and data exchange.

It's doesn't seem to work. The profile in assigned to the computer (need a little hack too) and i just received an ARP task after three OPN task with error computation.
The option "If there is no work available for the project(s) I have selected above, please send me work from another project." is uncheck. |

Unfortunate that there is no button to create a profile with the chosen name and possibility to import parameters from an existing profile. There is a trick if you use Firefox. On the device page where you can select the device profile, you should activate the inspector in Firefox (Tools > Web Developer > Inspector). In the below window, in the code, you shall search for "venue". You will see the code for the pick-list with "default, home, school, work". You shall edit the code, for example replacing "home" with your new profile name. Without changing the page, you can now select the device profile with the name you edited, and afterwards press "save". Force the project update on your device, and verify in the boinc log that the new profile has been properly associated to your device. It sounds a little bit complicated but it is finally easy to do. Cheers, Yves |

Not even that, up in this thread the sample given was to just change the suffix of the url from e.g. home to 'example'. It will open a webpage that shows 'example' as the profile with the selections from 'default'. Make your changes and save (which I haven't done as I don't want to create a record, then having to delete it and hoping nothing gets screwed up).
