Server Outage

The server hosting the BOINC database has gone offline. We are working with the datacenter team to find out what happened. Once we have confirmation that the system is completely down and thus does not have our database SAN storage mounted, we will be able to failover the database to another server and resume normal activities.

However, until we are able to confirm that, BOINC clients will be unable to contact the scheduler to report completed work or fetch new work.

We apologize for the disruption.

The server is up and the database is going through crash recovery. Hopefully we will be back online in a few.

We found the root cause. There is a bad memory module on the server. We are failing over to our other server now so that the memory module can be replaced.

Failover complete. Things are operating normally again. We will stay on this server until the bad memory module(s) are replaced.

Thank you Kevin for the up-dated information.

Looking on such issues, I always astonished when I listen colleagues mentioning that the today reality of IT infrastructure is "Infrastructure as a Code" and consequently IT infrastructure hardware is not any more a topic !

Nevertheless without healthy hardware, there is no infrastructure, even as a code wink

We are starting the process of moving the BOINC database back to its original server. There will be a short period of time when client cannot report results or fetch new work.
