Re: OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Beta Test April 20, 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

Greetings,

Thank you again for helping with the BETA on this project!

As for the graphics cpu usage, you can control how much it uses. By default, it is set to like 5% CPU and 30 FPS if my memory serves me correctly.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Beta Test April 20, 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

I left my Pi to carry on crunching on its beta task, despite it timing out and the WU being passed on several times. I'm pleased to say it won the snail race, romping home after several days with a valid result.

I'm thinking that perhaps the deadline should be a little less tight on slow hosts such as Pies. Is there no way for the server to check on a host to see if it is away with the fairies, or still grinding its way through a task? I left the task to run because I could see from the stderr file that docks were completing.

Brumming,

What was the version of your Pi? I only have 1 personally to test with and it takes about 12 hours per task.

Thanks,

Any more betas for this project coming? If not I’ll start shutting down machines.

Do remember there was/is such a setting but for the life of it don't recollect if this is a setting in the BOINC manager or cc_config.xml and what that line reads like.

Edit: found this, with sliders to set times within the screensaver app of windows but nothing about load control .

thinking. Being retired I only run the farm for betas to keep the electric bill under control. When the new project launches I’ll just plod along. cool

Re: OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Beta Test April 20, 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

@Uplinger: It's a Raspberry Pi Model B Plus Rev 1.2, which has an ARMv6-compatible processor rev 7 (v6l). Yes, elderly, but it is powered up 24/7 and its CPU doesn't have a great deal to do, so I like to have it crunching BOINC tasks. I have two more modern Pies ready and waiting for Open Pandemics tasks, but this Pi picked up the task.

Re: OpenPandemics - COVID 19 Beta Test April 20, 2020 [ Issues Thread ]

Hi, just wanted to ask if there was a specific reason to exclude Android < 4.4 ? I got a few older devices, which could help crunching, but started to fail the 4.4+ wus...
I know it's outdated and everything but those things won't see any updates anymore and will continue to run (currently SCC still runs besides other boinc projects). There seem to be projects with fully static binaries, not depending on anything but the arch. But maybe it's just too little of an impact to bother, I would understand that...
