WCG on the Wii

I have an old Wii gathering dust.

Could you make a version of World Community Grid for the Wii?

The software process is [here](https://wiibrew.org/wiki/Making_homebrew)...

with a little bit of work, the PPC version could be ported to the Wii.

Thoughts?

Re: WCG on the Wii

Yes, please. I have one too. Would like to see it do some good for science.

What World Community Grid are you talking about? The thing that actually does the work is the science app of which there are several. It's not worth the development time to significantly change and then support those programs to fit a platform that isn't going to contribute significantly to WCG. As has been discussed ad infinitum on these forums over the years.

I'd still scale down the CPU usage to 25% at the most so it doesn't destroy the Switch. I haven't looked into the Wii much if somsone has found it if that is even do-able with putting Android or Linux on it.

Switch is, what, the 3rd generation Nintando if you don't count the one before Wii? It's completely different from Wii. So, really doubt someone can do it.

What do you mean by "3rd generation Nintendo"? Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, Wii, Wii U, Switch, not counting the portable iterations of Game Boys or the weird Virtual Boy.

Anyways, the general gist with hardware hacking is all it takes is someone smart, lucky, and perserverant enough to find a vulnerability to shim another OS onto it.

That's what I mean 'before Wii'. Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Nintendo 64, Gamecube, these are pre-Wii era consoles as I remember. Maybe I'm wrong. Haven't played game for more than 2 decades blushing . Anyway, I think it's more effective posting a message in the HomeBrew forum. In WCG, they don't even consider Android is a great computing power.

[Edit: I think the post I'm replying to was deleted because of misunderstanding.]

@jackielan2000, I agree 100% with your post that everyone's contribution -- no matter how small -- is valued and that nobody should feel bad if they only contribute little. Every drop raises the ocean. Every contribution is appreciated.

That said, I think @Doneske wasn't talking about showboating or belittling others. I think he was just saying that from a development (programming) standpoint, it spreads the volunteer developers' time and energy too thin to support many architectures. They're already overwhelmed just trying to support Windows, Mac, Linux on amd64 and Linux or Android on arm32/arm64, etc. I think Doneske is just saying that it's not possible for them to support smaller obscure architectures and OS's like a Nintendo product. If there's a way to shim BOINC Linux amd64 onto the latest Xbox or Playstation, it may be worth the ROI though but that's not changing the architecture if that makes sense.

Yeah, you are right. After reading it the 2nd time, I knew I misunderstood him so I deleted my reply. Sorry for the trouble. sad
