Re: Very Long Run Times

Didn't make any difference - still 11-12 hour run times with one WU running. No idea what's happening.

Re: Very Long Run Times

On MCM 7.41, I am seeing 1 hour 30 minutes to 2 hours 12 minutes on an i7-4771 running on 6 out of 8 cores (Win7 64-bit).

In your BOINC preferences, be sure you have "Use at most % CPU time" set to 100.00%.

Please post a log as that might help. Also post the OS and system specs along with a snapshot of task manager if you are running Windows.

Re: Very Long Run Times

On my desktop (Windows 10 64bit, i5 9400) there is no difference. On my laptop (also Windows 10 64bit, i5 5200u), WU takes up to 3 days to complete. Usually it only takes no more than 6 hours to complete a task.
Here are two log files from WUs from my laptop
the one with very long runtime:

Re: Very Long Run Times

Mike, I agree with what you are saying about hibernation in regards to save time. One downside I have noticed with hibernation is if there is any vibration from heavy traffic on the road my computer will turn itself back on and wake me up as it is in my room. For this reason I personally do not use this option

Re: Very Long Run Times

After I have hibernated my PC, I switch it off at the power socket. It cannot wake up without power. However I do have to be careful not to shake the table when standing up or drop my spectacles on the keyboard before turning off the mains power.

Re: Very Long Run Times

There's no progress being made on my end, i installed BOINC on Sunday to start using it but i've no success with World Community Grid, it managed to start the Covid 19 task but ultimately failed anyway after it did gain some progress, but i've noticed with other Projects there's a lag between your progress and how long it says it will take to do, i dunno if it depends on how many Resources you give it but the time estimation isn't exactly correct i've been hitting update every so often just to make it correct itself which won't happen straight away either. I understand WCG they got some sort of software and are Beta testing it but looks like they got some errors to work through.

On my new Gaming Laptop i'm giving projects 35% CPU and 40% memory so i can just run it while using the it (except for when i want to play a game) so i run on lower resources but it still gets things done on a decent time frame and i only allow 1 day of work with no additional work so then i only get given 1 more task after one is completed and sent, if i plan to start work for another Project then i'll tell it not to give me any more for one of the Projects in the BOINC Manager then switch over to another i had suspended. Universe@Home is great for small tasks but i would honestly keep your tasks to doing 2 at a time, you could still give it most of your resources if you want while you sleep but i would set it so it only gives you 1 day of work so it doesn't give you multiple tasks, you'll also get more done that way too since your resources are only shared between 2 tasks. But it seems some things need fixing at the moment, just hit update every so often for now otherwise if you don't your Tasks may have completed 1 hour to several hours ago without you knowing.

Re: Very Long Run Times

By default BOINC also pauses when the computer is used and then waits N minutes before resuming, so you need to tick the "While the computer is in use" box in the computing preferences or in the website device profile (if you have not already done that).

Additionally, you might want to tick "Leave application in memory while suspended" aka "Leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended". If you don't every time BOINC is paused, the application unloads and on resume restarts from the last checkpoint, which may explain the lack of progress.

sad Re: Very Long Run Times

Apologies if this has been addressed elsewhere; if so, please steer me in the right direction. sad
I, too, am experiencing very long run times (days) but I don't think it's my server: 2x10 core CPUs on an Intel S2600 platform: 40 threads. All WUs are MCM1 7.14 and BOINC Tasks shows several overdue by up to six days, with cores idling at single digit %s. Seems like they're hung; they're certainly not clearing as I would expect. No problems with other projects. Any advice here? Others with the same issue?
Cheers

Re: Very Long Run Times

Correction: Run times up to six days; WUs overdue by up to two days.
