Has anyone noticed some projects are going for days now? I have some 7.41 projects now taking 11 days. Others taking 3 or so days. At the same time I have projects running in just 3 or so hours.
I have a fast PC with a 4.00 GHz i7-6700K with 32 GB of RAM. So I don't think its the speed of my computer that is the issue. Just wanted to make sure we didn't have some bad projects eating up time for some reason. Thanks! |

Venture to guess that 7.41 is a version of African Rain Prediction on a different platform than Windows. The text after 7.nn is what describes the project as per a sample from BOINC on Windows

There is a huge disparity between projects. For instance, on my i7-3770, arp is taking over 24 hours whereas scc is taking 1.8 hours - a factor of 15.
----------------------------------------However, it also depends on how many of each you are running at the same time. arp slows down substantially if you run more than half your threads on arp and mip has problems with more than 3/8. Keep below those limits and you should be OK. arp also has a long time between checkpoints and you can waste a lot of time if you shut your machine down mid-checkpoint. Hibernating rather than shutting down preserves that crunching rather than losing it. Mike [Edit 1 times, last edit by Mike.Gibson at Apr 11, 2020 6:18:47 PM] |

African Rain Prediction on Linux is 7.27. This is probably a MCM work unit. |

I have MCM 7.41 on a slow old 32 bit windows PC running around 4-6 hours.
----------------------------------------11 days CPU on a faster PC sounds implausible. Elapsed 11 days implies being interrupted by other tasks, like FAH that have short (24hour?) deadlines. Paul.

What was the CPU time on the unit that took 11 days?

I have a Q6600 (old machine) running Win Vista (old OS) with 2gb memory which is very consistently running MCM at 3.25 hours apiece. It has been running MCM exclusively for months. I have yet to see a work unit get stuck. I would speculate it is a system problem, not a work unit problem.
----------------------------------------Cheers

I've been seeing the same issue in the past few weeks. Resetting the project didn't help - I'm going to try cutting it down to one WU at a time (it's a 4 core machine currently running 2) to see if that does anything...

There shouldn't be any capacity issues with mcm, unlike arp & mip.
