WCG on dialup

Hi,

have dial up connection and I want to run WCG. Is it possible that I can set the client to download small work units only.

Thanks

Re: WCG on dialup

There are another couple of projects starting in a few weeks. Perhaps some of those will have smaller workunits.

Here's what I see for the current project. The 4 Mb workunit on Rosetta only has to be downloaded once since it contains the program, and the receive takes about 15-20 minutes. Subsequent workunits are between 500K and 1Mb since only the result dataset needs to be sent in, and the work data received. All of my results seen below in this statistics box were downloaded/uploaded by 56K dialup. Preparation/send/receive only takes about 5-10 minutes per workunit. I have sent in 4 results so far today from multiple computers. It's not that big of a deal. I can even run ANOTHER DC PROJECT, DIMES, while the send/receive to WCG is up. AVG Antivirus was also updated this morning while the send/receive was running. That's a fairly productive use of a dialup connection.

Re: WCG on dialup

all that on dial up, retsof i am impressed, i could not catch you up in points on grid.org and now i find you at wcg and yet again u r way ahead of me, i have 2 computers and broadband!. i would have suggested try looking for other projects with smaller d/l and u/l requirements, your huge contribution pointswise proves that dialup peopel should be into these projects, hmm u have renewed my faith in dialup, only ny braodband friends and relo's are into distrib stuff, i shall have to hold u as an example, go retsof, ps watch your back i am chasing your points again !!!!

Re: WCG on dialup

Keep chasing. Every workunit adds a result.

If the internet is backed up waiting for something, it doesn't matter how fast broadband is...

In answer to your question, there is no way for you to select work units, but as you see from the other responders, this should not be necessary.

Best regards,
