# of Tasks
Hello,
I just updated my computer to AMD 3970 (32 core/64 threads) and expected to see 64 task running simultaneously but only see 32. I have Computing Preferences set to use 100% of CPU's and 90% of CPU time. Is there anything I can do to get 64 tasks running?

Please post the event log, the first 60 lines or so.

You may want to add a little more information (ie. OS, memory size, etc.).

Default could be 32.

On multiprocessors, at most use: 32 processors

Shows in my home profile, so guess that's what it is.

Otherwise you to force 64 through the cc_config.xml with the ncpus line- <ncpus>N</ncpus>. Not recommended though.

If you are using version 6.2 of the software, then the number of processors used will be the lesser of the two fields below. If you are using a version before 6.2, then only the 'at most' field will be used.
On multiprocessors, at most use: (field is blank) processors
On multiprocessors, use: 100.0 % of processors

Yes we know, beyond 6.2 or from 7 the cores setting is supposed to be ignored entirely, only the percent working, but it's coincidentally still 32 and 32 running, hence the ncpus setting offered as alternative ;).

Look in the client_state.xml file for a line

<p_ncpus>8</p_ncpus>

My device is 8. Your log says BOINC sees 32.

If it says 32 in client_state you have to start thinking of the ncpus line addition to cc_config.xml

client_state is, indeed, 32. I'll change it to 64 and see what happens. Thanks for info.
