Headless operation

Good morning,

I have been able to install and connect with the boinc-clients via the command line (Debian client running on ARM cores). Can I configure a project with a text file? I will have no X access to the box as it is a headless installation.

Thank you.

Re: Headless operation

@dherkes, You'll get some advice here on the forum, but if you want to research this yourself just do an internet search on "BOINC Configuration", and that will get you started. Basically, there are about 3 files you can set up as you like/need.

Also, you will want to set up the Device Manager / Device Profiles on the Settings page on the WCG website. https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/ms/device/viewDevices.do

Good luck!

Re: Headless operation

You could also use BOINCmanager on another PC - File, Select Computer.
3rd party s/w BOINCtasks can also be used to manage 1 or more PCs.

Re: Headless operation

I think WCG only supports android on ARM. There maybe other projects outside WCG that can supply work to that configuration

Not sure that it is up to date/accurate, but you can check the Supported Platforms column here: https://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php

Re: Headless operation

Hi,

I have had absolutely no luck configuring the headless client. The web pages do not tell me much at all - vague references to xml files, but no URL's that I can attach to. I can use the 'boinccmd' on the client and communicate with the server, but cannot attach to any project.

Re: Headless operation

boinccmd --project_attach URL account_key

Don't bother attaching to WCG because there's no projects on Linux ARM. Will have to use Android on ARM to run WCG Android projects (once we have an active Android project) or attach to another BOINC project from that list.

Personally? I manage my headless machines using BOINC Manager from a machine with a GUI. I do File --> Select Computer then type in the headless machine's host name. You'll need to add the non-headless computer's host name or IP address to the headless machine's remote_hosts.cfg file first.

Re: Headless operation

The client computer doesn't even respond. The connection times out. I was attempting to connect with the Amicable Numbers project.

Re: Headless operation

According to https://boinc.berkeley.edu/projects.php Amicable Numbers doesn't support Linux on ARM. That's likely why.
