Hi,
----------------------------------------I was looking through the Immunity Microbiome Project thread suggesting additional articles. Is it possible to have some type of rating users can click for the suggested articles? Thanks muchly. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 25, 2020 9:29:23 PM] |

The forum software is ancient and, despite several requests, has not been updated or replaced, so I think your request will go unheeded I'm afraid.
Actually, I think that few of us are in a position to give a meaningful rating anyway. But, if you feel strongly about an article (either way), there's nothing to stop you commenting with your own views, is there? |

There are different perspective on what makes a good article. A good academic article with solid science and a useful conclusion could still be entirely useless to the casual reader.
----------------------------------------Similarly an article with little scientific value which explains things in a useful way to the lay reader could have value to that lay reader. Considering the breadth of contributors to WCG and readers of this forum I think the ability for users of the forum to comment on the articles is a useful and underutilized feature. Maybe there is a web developer out there that would like to develop a star rating system for posts. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Macroman at Jan 27, 2020 6:13:23 AM] |

Star ratings would become meaningless quickly.
----------------------------------------In survey design, an answer that could imply multiple meanings isn't helpful. Let's take this post containing bad news as a sample: https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,42005 Would we rate it five stars as in "thanks for letting us know" or one star as in "we disapprove of the error which caused this redundancy"? Or how about this post? https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/viewthread_thread,41729 The donor was right, the project had briefly stopped sending out work units. Is that five stars, as in "good catch" or one star, as in "no longer relevant, it's all back on now" or one star as in "I didn't notice anything, ergo you must be wrong"? Ultimately, it's like what Apis Tintinnambulator said: The forum software is ancient and, despite several requests, has not been updated or replaced, so I think your request will go unheeded I'm afraid. Newer forum software has thread rating functionality in addition to actual security fixes. The WCG forum software is many years obsolete, meaning the solution is replacement with something modern and supported.

Maybe I misinterpreted the OP's intention but I thought this was about academic and news articles like what is commonly posted under project updates or interesting news articles.
If we look at the project update and interesting news articles threads across the projects I could see where it might be helpful to have someone indicate which articles are the best. I don't see any value in rating the typical day to day threads because most are very transient. I would add that I would personally give badge recognition threads zero stars but understand that others like them. |
