Re: MIP1 Tasks Fail During Shutdown

LAIM is an option in BOINC.
Leave Application In Memory when a work unit is suspended.

LAIM is an option in BOINC.
Leave Application In Memory when a work unit is suspended.

Commonly known by it's acronym LAIM, the description in the Berkeley 7.n clients has evolved into "Leave non-GPU tasks in memory while suspended", which highlights that GPU tasks will always vacate memory when paused/suspended. Not a particular concern at WCG though nerd

Re: MIP1 Tasks Fail During Shutdown

I know of the setting but I'd never noticed the acronym before. I did a forum search for LAIM and didn't find anything that explained it. Even a google search was not helpful. Here are the LAIM acronyms that I found with a google search:

Acronym Definition
LAIM London Acting and Improvising Meetup (UK)
LAIM Large Animal Internal Medicine (veterinary specialty)
LAIM League Average Innings Muncher (baseball statistics)
LAIM Latin American Indian Ministries (Orange, CA; est. 1996)
LAIM Log Anonymization and Information Management Working Group (est. 2005; National Center for Supercomputing Applications; University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign; Urbana, IL)

I think that it's helpful to spell out the full text of an abbreviation the first time that it's used.

The project names like MIP would be an exception because we're on a forum dedicated to Microbiome Immunity Project.

This abbreviation is explained and used several times in WCG forum as in other projects.
You would have done better to google for BOINC LAIM and would have been more successful.

Looks like it was spelled out in 5 help posts, at least

Re: MIP1 Tasks Fail During Shutdown

Thanks for finding those Lavaflow.

I'm not sure what the difference in construction of our searches was but the first of your results to appear in my results BOINC: High Priority / Earliest Deadline First (EDF) task processing is on page 22 of my LAIM search results.

I don't want to drag the thread off-topic but it seems to me that commonly used acronyms should be listed prominently in the FAQ documents. The FAQ was redone in 2016 and I don't see LAIM anywhere in it.
