Re: Work Available

I suspect that it is to do with the number of workunits with errors. I have not got any ARP work on any machines since last night.

Re: Work Available

I had 1 error last night, unusually, after just 4 minutes. It was replaced immediately. 2 hours later I finished a unit which took 2 hours to get replaced.

The number of results being returned has climbed significantly over the last week - up nearly 50%. Perhaps faster than WCG can create new units.

Re: Work Available

Another problem might be an increase in the number Pending Validation. The next generation cannot be produced until both copies have been returned and validated.

I'm getting work units again after having them stall out like the rest of you.

Re: Work Available

Latest stats:

Average generation: 88.6
Pace (average time to complete a generation): 3.5 (7-day average)

Note on pace: There is a user who has access to a large amount of computing that periodically will run World Community Grid jobs when their computing infrastructure is not otherwise in use. They have configured things so that their contribution is very efficient for us. They have their system set up to download a single job, run immediately it and then return it (I believe they use the command line options --allow_multiple_clients --fetch_minimal_work --exit_when_idle and have each client running look like a single core machine). This works really well for ARP1 and over the past two weeks you can see the impact from their contribution. On some days we are running over twice as fast as we were back in May. The 3.5 pace reflects this users contribution, but they are not always able to contribute so I expect this to return to our normal average of 4.4.

Re: Work Available

Thank you, Kevin.

As 087 is the latest generation identified as labelled 'priority'. I will base this response on that. If anyone knows of a later batch please advise and I will adjust my figures.

There have been 107,947 units validated in generations up to and including 087 in the last 20 days, out of 361,513 returned. Allowing for 2 results being needed for each unit, that corresponds to 59.7% of work done, but some of that was when the later generations were still standard priority.

There are now 92,321 units remaining to be crunched in those generations out of a total of 192,554 up to generation 094 (47.9%).

The stragglers are catching up, but the total is moving up.

However, half of the generation 001's are still stuck. I reckon that they would take at least 3 months to catch up. Maybe even a year.

Mike
