So the projects I crunch are Microbiome, OpenZika, and Smash Childhood Cancer.
----------------------------------------I have three computers all running Windows 10 Pro and with very similar hardware specifications such as 1TB hard drives, 12GB RAM, and X5680 processors. I am aware that there is a shortage of work units at present, but what confounds me is why do two of my PC's always have enough work units to use 12 threads with additional ones on standby, while the other PC has been fluctuating between 4 and 5 work units for a week now, and when I look in the log it always says there are no work units? Also the preference settings are the same on all the computers hence my puzzlement. I've even tried a reset several times to no avail. |

Of the three projects you mentioned, only MIP1 has any work at this time. They should all be working on MIP1 (except maybe for an occasional Zika resend). I haven't known MIP1 to be out of work except in rare cases. I would definitely double-check the preferences looking specifically at the project selection, network connect days, % of CPU and Memory allowed (MIP1) uses lots of memory compared to the other two projects. Do all 3 allow MIP1 work?

Yes they are all allowed MIP1 work and the computer in question is working on them too, just not getting as many work units as the other computers.

Consider this issue resolved.
----------------------------------------I have zero idea why, since both profiles are set to maximum performance, but I just happened to notice one difference in the computer getting little work, and that was that it was set to "home" profile whereas my other two are set to "default". This still makes little sense as the home profile as well as the default one are set to the same maximum output preference. Anyway I changed it to default and after the BOINC agent read the config files it began to download more work. Thanks |

Do you have sufficient available disk space?
----------------------------------------MIP1 is requiring a lot of storage space. On the device profile, you should not only allow MIP1 but set the number of simultaneously computed WU's (at the bottom of the device profile page). Especially because MIP1 is highly RAM demanding, it is not wise to devote the machine 100% to MIP1; you should at least select some other projects such as MCM. Cheers, Yves |

Hard drive has 1TB of space and RAM is 12GB so should suffice for any project.

As long as you keep at least 2.5 GB available disk space for boincdata, it should be OK.
----------------------------------------Based on your project selection, I suppose that you do experience limitations because of MIP1. As mentioned in my previous post, you should add MCM in your project selection (device profile). After you did it, please give us a feedback if you still observe a trouble. Cheers, Yves |

I opted not to run MCM on purpose as it runs much hotter than my current choices and I now have three computers operating in close proximity.
----------------------------------------With this selection I am able to run all three at 100% capacity while keeping the CPU core temperatures under 50°C which makes me happy. 50°C representing the hottest core as measured by Coretemp, and that one is generally at least 5°C hotter than all the others. Everything is running normal again so is all good. Thanks for your input. ---------------------------------------- [Edit 1 times, last edit by LoneWolf_53 at Jul 19, 2019 10:20:37 PM] |
