One thing is not really clear to me:
Why do you want high results turnover and therefore search for a CPU with high speed per core? Do you need this for other applications? If yes, that might make sense. If not, for grid computing only, I do not think this makes much sense. What you want there is a high all-core CPU speed compared to overall cost of the system, as well as a low energy usage compared to all-core CPU speed. Both are best done with an 8-core Ryzen CPU with low clock speed currently (meaning the Ryzen 2700 is the best fit, until Ryzen 3000 is available). Intel CPUs cannot keep up with that, neither in energy efficiency nor in price/performance. Only if high single-core speed is needed, they are still top-of-the-line. |

I am looking for the highest amount of run-time I can achieve in a 12 hour period so at the moment I am achieving about 8 days per half calendar day. I only can run my machine for 12 to 13 hours a day.Stock speed of 3 GHz 8 cores 16 thread's. boost clock at 3.49 GHz. Intel 5960 X. Yes you are correct the I 7 has 8 cores and 8 threads and of the I 9 has 8 cores 16 thread's. The reason why I want high-speed per core is so I can achieve my badges as fast as possible. In my circumstance I only had room for one desktop & I cannot run 24/7. 3950X—16C/32T, 3.5GHz to 4.7GHz, 72MB cache, 105W TDP, $749 (in September) Ryzen 9 3900X—12C/24T, 3.8GHz to 4.6GHz, 70MB cache, 105W TDP, $499 Is 400 MHz off what the I 9 can achieve at boost 5 GHz. I assume prices are in Australian dollars source PC Gamer I will not be building this machine myself because I am physically not able to. Currently there is about $300 between the I 9 and the latest Ryzen on the market 2700 X. I 9 being dearer. Both machines are over 5K New Zealand includes 32 gig of RAM and latest Nvidia graphics card ![]() |

The reason why I want high-speed per core is so I can achieve my badges as fast as possible. The badges are given for time worked on a project, not the throughput of the machine on the project. If you are only badge hungry, get as many cores as you can possibly afford. If you are concerned with throughput per cpu, get the fastest cpu you can afford. If you are looking for the most efficient use of your electricity, do the math on throughput per watt (which I am sure someone has already done.) That being said, do what you can afford, every little bit helps. Cheers
