Hi!
How much time do I (my client) have to return the result? My notebook is'n on every day, so it may be takes a few weeks to finish the result. How do I know that the task is not send to someone else in this time and the whole work of my computer is unimportant than.. Sebastian |

As far as I know, they send the same task to different persons.
So the results can be compared and if a person quits the program the result doesn't get lost. So it doesn't matter when you return the result. |

Ok.
But is there a "dead line", meaning the client will automaticcaly abort the current WU and download another one ? I do have one device (out of 4) which is rarely used, so it might take 6 weeks until this device will return a result. |

Well, looking at David's post there may be a timeout after all. The server will eventually assign the Work Unit to another computer, but there are a lot of Work Units (millions) to go through.

There's absolutely nothing on the WCG website to give us a definitive answer on this one. But over on grid.org who are colaborating with us on the HPF task, in their member news (WCG it's that chap Dave Autumns again banging on about the IBM Forum Support) they have this statement
----------------------------------------"Timeouts are 2weeks for cpu time and 3 weeks for wall clock time" so maybe but not definitely, you never know, it might be the same for WCG I know this is not much comfort if you've got a killer WU but at the moment this is as good as it gets. Keep Crunching Dave |

I have been reading through the grid.org forum about this question. They started with a 2 week limit on CPU Time and 3 week limit on wall clock time before the Agent aborted the Rosetta Work Unit. However, on 22 Nov 2004 they announced in the Member News Forum that they were changing the time limits to 3 weeks CPU Time and 4 weeks wall clock time. However, on another day they increased the Minimum RAM required from 128MB to 256MB to 'avoid interfering' with member's computers. Since each grid is setting requirements independently, there is no guarantee that WCG is using the same time limits or even any time limits at all. There has not been any official mention of time limits on the World community Grid that I am aware of. Sorry I cannot give a definitive answer.

All Right!! Rick Alther has answered the question here: http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/forums/wcg/...?thread=574&offset=20
Just as David supposed, the timeout is 2 weeks of CPU Time and 3 weeks of Wall Clock time. |

Ok, so if the wall clock timeout is three weeks, I would like to know if there is a Rosetta log file or something that I could refer to see when exactly I downloaded and began a workunit.
Is there a way to see how long I have had a particular work unit? |

Hi Matt3223
----------------------------------------If you look in the WorldCommunityGrid Directory You will see one file named ud_?????? [substitute file # for question marks] This file has no extension and this file is date and time stamped when it was received by your system Just refer to this file to find out when you started your latest work unit I hope this info helps [Edited at Rick Althers Request 13/01/2004 see below] Regards [Edit 1 times, last edit by Former Member at Jan 13, 2005 10:14:52 AM] |
