FightAIDS@Home, Phase 2 - Project Update, February 2019

Hello everyone,

You may have noticed that FAAH2 recently switched to a new type of work unit . The project's latest update, which you can read here, gives some background on why the research team decided to do this. You can also learn more about the project's newest team members.

Thanks for supporting FightAIDS@Home!

So does this require a continuous internet connection to allow streaming?

Isn't the time limit of 24 hours too short causing waste of computational time ?
I often see units with the state 'No reply' and another machine started on the same unit.

I found another thread about this issue (without any responsible person from FightAIDS@Home2 joining in !).
As I don't want to waste computational and electrical power I am focusing on other projects now. FightAIDS@Home2 is hurting itself by this strategy.

This is cool! From the update:

Previous Process: Multiple copies of a protein-ligand complex (the structure consisting of a drug candidate compound docked with a protein receptor) were sent out to many volunteers and are simulated with no interaction with one another. The collective information from all those simulations are combined during analysis at the very end.

New Process: Asynchronous replica exchange allows information from the different copies to be shared and exchanged among all copies dynamically after the simulations. This process yields the correct equilibrium statistical physics needed for our analysis.

Re: FightAIDS@Home, Phase 2 - Project Update, February 2019

It looks efficient to me. It allows the scientists to coordinate the work between machines the best way they can. That is not easy in distributed computing projects with long latencies (the time from when they send out a work unit until the time they receive the results). That is a lot harder with thousands of widely disbursed machines than if they were doing it in-house.

I will be adding a Win7 machine to it when it finishes some long CPDN work.

I have a couple of Ryzens on the other WCG projects, but they are Linux. So I will devote the Windows machine to FAH2 and MIP. That way, I can meet the deadlines with no problems. My machines run 24/7, and I would prefer short deadlines anyway.
