Enable setting allowing choose of project depending on required execution time

There were times when my workstation run round the clock... After I retired, this is no more possible :-( Now is my workstation running only when I need it to do some task... thus a lot of Grid computational task which is neering to completion, but there is no pressing need to switch my workstation on, resulting that time for completing computation expires, and Grid task in question is cancelled - meaning a lot of compute time wanish, to no help of Grid community. Such situation is waste of resources which might help the community.

I have quite often to cancel task which need more resources (time) to finish that I know it will not be available.

I'd like if there would be a possibility to select computation task depending on time needed to complete it. Say, I know that I'll use my workstation for about 4 hours in given week - so I'll be suggested only such tasks that would be able to finish computing it this time... Does there exist such possibility?

The answer to your question requires you to do some 'legwork'... Some thoughts to kick off with...
Go to the WCG web-site, login and click on "My Contribution" near top right-hand of WCG page...
Looking down the page you will see a "Statistics By Project" section...
Divide "Total Run Time" by "Results Returned" for each project for which you have statistics.
This will give an average result for work you have completed.

Note the following...

1. This average is only valid for use now if the statistics were mainly derived from running on a machine(s) similar in speed and use patterns to what you are currently using and doing. If this is NOT the case you will need to go the the "Results Status" and lookup the Results that have a Results Status of 'Valid' and average by project what results you can see there. Note there will only be the results for WUs very recently completed.

2. Projects do not continuously checkpoint - only after a certain percentage of work is completed. Thus if you turn your machine on for only short periods of time before the next checkpoint is reached, no progress is recorded at power off. So next time you power on, you are no further forward, starting again from the same checkpoint. Use of Hibernation and enabling the 'leave_apps_in_memory' option will help alleviate this problem. Not all systems can hibernate however.

You can view http://wuprop.boinc-af.org/ to find a project that fits.

Look at your Results Status page and select valid (completed) option. Now you can see exactly how much time is used by the WUs running on your PC.
