Want to take a look at keeping a record, perhaps a spreadsheet, containing the machine identifier for each machine I currently run on WCG.
----------------------------------------Which files and/or folders do I need to save in order to not have Boinc/WCG create a new machine when I do an OS clean install? Can I get away with just replacing the identifier shown on Boinc startup after a re-install and if so where (in what file) is this found? Also..... bit of a long shot.... is this info filed away at WCG somewhere that I have access to? ![]() |

Whenever I do an OS install, I stop BOINC. Backup the <data> directory {/var/lib/boinc in Linux}. Do the OS install, reinstall BOINC (don't attach to any projects), then restore the backup of the <data directory>. IIRC, the <host id> is stored in the client_state.xml file in the <data directory>. It seems to work for me most of the time.
----------------------------------------Additionally, there are sub-directories (slots and projects) under the primary data directory. Make sure you copy those too. I suspect that if they weren't there, BOINC would just create them again but then BOINC would have to re-download any project files that were there. Slots directory isn't all that important but the projects directory would be worth copying. Also, make sure all your WUs have completed and reported so you don't lose any work in the event something goes wrong. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Doneske at Dec 27, 2018 10:20:42 PM] |
