Not Enough Disk Space Error

I am running BOINC Manager 7.9.3 (x64) under Ubuntu 18.04

At the end of my first work unit WCG disappeared from the Boinc Manager's list of active jobs and when requesting an update to get the next work unit I receive the following error message in the event log :-

Message from server: Mapping Cancer Markers needs 500.00MB more disk space. You currently have 0.00MB available and it needs 500.00MB.

My home drive has 200+GB free and my system drive has 100GB+ free, I have increased the disk usage option to allow up to 90GB to be used (although the event manager shows update still reporting Max Disk Usage 10.00GB)

In parallel with the WCG project I am running rosetta and that could be hogging memory but it is not using much disk space.

Is this a known problem and how do I get WCG to start up another work unit?

Re: Not Enough Disk Space Error

Did you look at the Disk tab?

sudo apt autoremove
sudo reboot

...KRI please cancel all shadow-banning

The disk tab where?

There isn't one in Boinc Manager and the Computing Preferences there just brings up a blank window and locks Boinc.

There is a Disk Usage section on the Device Preferences on the website and that is where I changed the "Use No More Than GB" and "Use No More Than %" but, as I said, that did not change the "Max Disk Usage" line reported during update in the event log.

ETA, the only limit that I can see that is being reached is the memory usage which was set to 75% for both Rosetta and WCG, I have upped that to 85% for WCG but it has made no difference.

Re: Not Enough Disk Space Error

OK, I've identified a possible cause but I do not understand it.

With the system monitor > File Systems there are several dozen /DEV/LOOPn entries of type squash all of which are related to snapd and all of which have 0.00MB free.

As snapd is a mechanism for installing containerised software packages I'm guessing that it could be a mechanism used by Boinc.

Does this relate to the error message? I've no way of knowing and it gets me no nearer to loading another WCG work unit.

Any ideas?

Re: Not Enough Disk Space Error

go into BoincMgr and then go to advanced view. At the top will be a disk tab. It will give you information on how much disk boinc is using and if there is any available for boinc to use. if you changed your preferences but it doesn't seem to take effect, it may be there are local preferences that are overriding the global preferences. You can check your local preferences by going to the advanced view and then at the top there is a "options" menu. Click options and then click computing preferences

Many thanks, that's exactly what I need - on my way again :-)
