confused SCC program used suboptimal?

Why do these tasks use intelx86 version of wcgrid_scc1 but not x86_64 version?
Is this an approach to a better compute performance, or this is just a flaw?

Re: SCC program used suboptimal?

SCC has a 64-bit app.
I'm running it just now.

Re: SCC program used suboptimal?

I've noticed many of the Quorum 2/Replication 2 work units use the 32-bit application, and the Quorum 1/Replication 1 work units use the 64-bit.

Once you have returned enough "Valid" work units to each project, such as SCC, your machine should get Quorum 1/Replication 1 64-bit work units.

  • i5-4590 (Haswell, 4C/4T) @ 3.3 GHz
  • E5800 (Wolfdale, 2C/2T) @ 3.2 GHz

Then it's just a problem of the computing power I gave out?

Re: SCC program used suboptimal?

I seem to recall that 32-bit vs 64-bit on Windows isn't that different when it comes to performance. And that in some computers, 64-bit actually runs slower (small decrease) and so WCG automatically sends 32-bit apps.

On Linux, there is a massive performance increase using the 64-bit apps compared to Windows 64-bit or 32-bit, on the VINA sciences, such as Zika and SCC.

Re: SCC program used suboptimal?

In many cases, 64 bit applications remain a problem in Windows (starting with MS own applications) !!!

Well... In fact, wcg has sent these computation applications:
FAHB: i386 only
MCM: amd64 only
MIP: i386 only
SCC: gfx(both) vina(both)
ZIKA: amd64 only
So may I assume that, before starting the first computation, wcg had ran some benchmarks on my computer to compare the two programs, and determined which one is better in the same project?
What a joke, it should have found out that I have no NVIDIA display adapters installed, thus should have removed the two wcgrid_scc1_gfx_7.08_windows_xxxxx programs from hard drive.(wwwwwwwww)

You may know something I don't, but at the moment there are NO GPU-based science apps on WCG (and there haven't been for a long time), so I THINK that the programmes you're referring to are the ones that run when you hit "Show graphics" or you run the screensaver.

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by "computing power." If you look at the work units in "Results Status," you can tell if it's Quorum 1/Replication 1 or Quorum 2/Replication 2. I've noticed that often times if you are a wingman in a Quorum 2/Replication 2 work unit, everyone will run the 32-bit application.

I've also noticed that for Quorum 1/Replication 1 work units, the 64-bit application will be used.
