I want to create a vm image to try using BOINC on linux, and I'm hesitating on how shall I partitioning my disk.
I want to separate the /home partition from the root partition, and if BOINC doesn't store data there, I shall make it much smaller. |

Depends on the distro and whether you install an official BOINC package vs. build from source yourself.
----------------------------------------I run Debian (Installing BOINC on Debian), and the package places BOINC data in /var/lib/boinc-client/ and the binaries in / etc/boinc-client/ In other words, I don't think it uses the Home directory at all.
