I've just encountered my BitDefender 2019 security software blocking what it considered to be ransomware behaviour by WCG BOINC Manager v7.2.47:
"The process C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org\wcgrid_mip1_rosetta_7.16_windows_intelx86 manifests ransomware behavior and was blocked. Several files were encrypted but we successfully restored all of them. You can find the restored files list below." Unfortunately the list of files affected cannot be copied n pasted, only captured by screenshot which I will do if anyone wants to see it. This apparently happened 2 hours ago but I've only just noticed. The Tasks list shows that there's a 'Microbiome Immunity Project 7.16' that's 'Ready to report' but when I force network communication the results don't get uploaded. There're a couple more of the MIP project tasks that will end in the next hour so I'll see whether they encounter the same problem. I guess this is a false positive that I need to report to Bitdefender? |

After over 5 years using BitDefender (2002-2007), I stopped using it (just after having renew the licence for 3 years) since the tool started to identify everywhere false positives, making my machine unable to work, and destroying clean files.
----------------------------------------I did never experience a similar behaviour with avast and some other anti-virus tools. Maybe you will succeed to report the issue (if the file is really a false positive) to the company. In 2007, I did not succeed and I lost some days of work. Cheers, Yves |

Thanks Yves. I really like Bitdefender so hopefully they will provide a speedy response. I've sent the ticket to Bitdefender. I'll report back here what their response is.
