Installed WCG and running tasks keep freezing at a small percentage

Tasks keep freezing when I run them and I don't understand why. I tried uninstalling, suspending, made sure "leave applications in memory while suspended" is unchecked, restarting, aborting tasks and getting new tasks, and changing projects. The percentages I have seen them get stuck on are 0.500%, 1.333%, 1.666% 2.333%, 5%, and so on. I really want to get it working but I don't know if there is even anything left to try.

The task you you show has been running for less than 10 minutes.
Give it some time. It should take at least a few hours to finish, depending on your CPU.

Re: Installed WCG and running tasks keep freezing at a small percentage

As Falconet mentioned, as long as it still says running, you are ok. If you are unsure if the task is actually running, you can open task manager and check your cpu usage. If you have a quad core processor and 4 tasks are running, you will see 4 instances of WCGRID followed by the science it is running. Each of those tasks will be using a percentage of the processor. In the example of the quad core, each would be utilizing approx 25% processor usage. Sometimes tasks will get "stuck" on a percentage for a long time. But when it finally moves, it could jump significantly. Each work unit behaves differently than the next, so BOINC is more of a set it and forget it thing. Set it up and let it start, make sure it downloads a work unit, and check on it after several hours.

In your screenshot you only show one task running, which is typical of a new install. When BOINC is first installed, the computer will run a benchmark and one task will download and start. If that task runs for a while without issue (maybe 10-15 min?), more tasks will be downloaded and added to the queue. If 6 tasks download and you have less threads than that available, the rest will wait for the current running tasks to complete.

In my case, I am currently running a 16 thread system, and I can see wcgrid_scc1_vina_7.08_windows_x86_x64, each with about 6.3% processor usage in task manager. Edit: I am running Smash Childhood Cancer exclusively, so all my work units are from the same science. Your setup may vary and you may see different sciences.

Click the task then Show Graphics. If it's still running then you're good
