Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

@O&O,
Which BOINC version are you running? Please post the BOINC log entries that display this information when you start the client.

Thank you AgrFan. I greatly appreciate your support and commitment to WCG community.

Have you tried running without Throttle? Are system temps OK and are the 8 threads running 90% in Task Manager?

No, I haven't. I restart TThrottle and this is the log .. (PrimeGrid and Collatz WUs were running)

Also, I checked my system's Event's viewer log and found the following Warning and Errors (one time everyday) under the Windows Logs/Application .. please ignore if it is not related) :

I would change your WCG profile from Home to Default and see if that helps. After changing the profile, click "Use Web Prefs" in the client to clear the local settings.

My apologies AgrFan but as I have already detached WCG from BOINC client after WCG; OET1_ 0001146_ xMBGP-OM_ rig_ 73765_ 1, described above, was completed. Do you want me to Re attach to the project after I do those changes?

Again, many thanks for your help.

Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

I agree with the previous poster who stated the OET units should not be taking 22+ hours on your rig. However, I think it is the use of TThrottle which is causing these longer run times. The reason is CPU/Elapsed time ratio. Your computer is also busy with other compute intensive tasks and their is some small lag time inherent in the starting and stopping of each application and the competition of all of the projects for scarce resources within the CPU and the OS. As an experiment, you could try just running OET on one core without any other projects running and trying this with TThrottle first turned on and then with it turned off.
I am just a little bit curious on why you would be using TThrottle on a desktop unless you were worried about an overheating problem or excessive fan noise. Mostly I have seen TThrottle being used with some laptops where running CPU's at 100% does cause an overheating problem.
Hope this helps a little bit.
Cheers

Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

I use TThrottle on desktop PCs as a safety measure and for the very rare hot day.
On the i7-2600k which I think has a thermal limit over 90 deg C, I limit the temp to 70. On my i7-6700 I limit the temp to 62. I also use the TThrottle 'programs' tab to set the temperature limit. This tab also shows how much CPU is used by non-BOINC programs and the throttling percentage being used if the limit has been reached.

Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

@O&O,
The results log shows the OET work unit restarting from the beginning several times before finally completing.

Follow these steps and let us know if performance improves.
1. Turn off any non-WCG projects (Primegrid, Collatz, etc).
2. Shutdown TThrottle.
3. Re-attach to WCG project.

Start by running only OET work. They should take 2-4 hours to finish. Check the result logs on the Results page for any work units that are still restarting.

You may want to reboot your machine to clear out any gremlins also.

FWIW, I have a Dell OptiPlex 990 i7-2600 (8C/8T) machine running Windows 7 Pro x64 Edition that takes 1.5 hours to complete FAAH2 work.

I would just like to point out the following task tlook over 14 hours on a I 7 5960 X were around 60° I do not use any temperature management software. Just wanted to give you a comparison and also to show you there are long tasks running for OET currently OET1_ 0001128_ xEBGP-OM_ rig_ 35545_ 3-- Valid 7/15/18 03:50:58 7/17/18 01:08:56 14.66 / 14.72 356.2 / 353.9

AgrFan said: "OET should not be taking 20+ hours of CPU time on a I7-950 to complete a work unit. They should be taking approx. 2-4 hours on Windows and even less on Linux. You have a WCG configuration problem."
Current OET work units are in fact very long, and there was a post somewhere from the techs or scientists to say that such WUs would be starting. So O&O's times are reasonable. The times for his wingmen are also quite long, though not as long as O&O's. But the i7-950 is now an old machine. Intel made a big jump in performance from the i7-950 generation (Nehalem?) to Sandy Bridge (ix-2xxx), and now to Coffee Lake (ix-8xxx).

IMHO, it's all about the science, not the BOINC or WCG points. Crunch on ...

Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

Thanks for the clarification Rickjb.

I'm not running OET currently and was not aware of the longer units. I was seeing 2-4 hours runtimes for the regular ones.

I believe there was a post earlier from Sgt. Joe that indicated the runtimes O&O was seeing for the new units should not be taking 22+ hours on a I7-950 machine.
