Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

I think you should enable SMT (hyperthreading) in your motherboard BIOS. On my Ryzen 1700, I am averaging less than 1.20 hours per work unit, running 16 cores. You are taking at least 0.65 hours per work unit on 8 cores. So I am getting at least 0.65/0.60 = 1.08 (8%) more output. Of course, it takes more memory, so if that is a limit, keep using the full cores.

EDIT: Also, I am running Ubuntu 18.04 which may help some, but you would still see an increase with SMT.

Yes, I switch SMT now and then according to testing with other BOINC projects.

Below runtimes with a set of 16 workunits with SMT, but a bit lower clock rate 3.2 Ghz, ~110 watts:

Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

Thank you for your feedback and suggestions ...

Anyhow, I have unchecked FightAIDS@Home Phase 2 from my list of WCG projects and will wait for the 5 running WCG tasks (1 MIP, 4 Ebola) to report their results before I decide if my PC also believes in the revelation which was shared by Agent Smith, when he was interrogating Morpheus in the Movie "the Matrix", is also valid ... and safe my PC from dealing with WCG projects, for good!

... and here is the status of the remaining tasks ... and TBH, I'm not willing to change my computer setup/sitting or do any efforts to boost its performance.

Sorry to say this, but you guys seems not to realize how how much this project is under utilizing the resources. If I give money to a charitable organization, I'd like to know that my money is being used efficiently and effectively. Same thing here -- I'd prefer that the computing hours I donate are being used effectively.

This is over 4.5 Mill BOINC credits in 4 days, from all other projects!

<pause>
  • Is FAH2 credits considered a "joke" for wasting host resources when compared to other BOINC projects?

<pause>

I will remove WCG project from my PC after this last task is complete. My Pc is: ...

  • GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM) i7 CPU 950 @ 3.07GHz [Family 6 Model 26 Stepping 5] (8 processors)
  • NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 Ti (4095MB) driver: 398.36 OpenCL: 1.2

... and stay on the cause and add it to my android's, since My PC is NOT a Super Computer

Regards,
O&O

Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

Don't be scared of giving BOINC, and hence WCG, the ability to use 100% of your machine's resources. All the tasks run at absolute bottom priority, so anything that you do (like surfing the web) will always get use of the machine first. And it's many, many years since, on an old and slow machine, I had to turn BOINC down. On all modern hardware I never, ever, had a problem. (But I don't run GPU work, or play games.)

Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

@O&O,
OET should not be taking 20+ hours of CPU time on a I7-950 to complete a work unit. They should be taking approx. 2-4 hours on Windows and even less on Linux. You have a WCG configuration problem. Plain and simple.

Maybe if you tell us more about your hardware setup and WCG settings others can help you optimize your machine. The startup messages from the BOINC log would help as well.

That amount of CPU time may be attributed to the units restarting over and over until they finish. What does the log show for one of these long running OET units?

Yes, this is not the place if all you are looking for is the highest BOINC Credits.

WoW! ... is this what you understood from all of this? You can not see the issues I'm having?

P.S.: WoW! ... Look at the WCG badges you have! Amazing!

Re: BOINC Credits for FAH2 completed tasks,... are you serious?

@O&O,
Which BOINC version are you running? Please post the BOINC log entries that display this information when you start the client. Also, click "Valid" on the Results tab for one of the long running tasks and post the output file messages.

Have you tried running without Throttle? Are system temps OK and are the 8 threads running 90% in Task Manager?

I would change your WCG profile from Home to Default and see if that helps. After changing the profile, click "Use Web Prefs" in the client to clear the local settings.
