Hi SCC Volunteers,
We've received an update from the primary investigator for the Smash Childhood Cancer project, which you can read here. We thank everyone for their patience while we worked with the research team to get this update. ErikaT |

I do not understand that it takes 18 months to write a project update that is written in 10 or 15 minutes ...
He has said practically nothing! :( |

I do not understand that it takes 18 months to write a project update that is written in 10 or 15 minutes ... He has said practically nothing! :( On the contrary, my friend. He has said quite a bit in a few sentences. Basic research is slow, so even when progress is made, it must checked and double checked along the way. He also states that a couple of proteins have now had their structure determined by cristallization and become new targets for a binding molecule. He also states they are working on doing the same for N-CYM protein, but this one is a tough nut to crack. When they do succeed in determining its structure, they will undoubtedly add it to be tested against the 3 million small molecules ( or maybe more) the other proteins are being tested against. Sure, they could write something every six months or so, but unless they have some significant breakthrough, they will not be telling us much except that testing continues. Cheers
Sgt. Joe

I agree with Sgt Joe.
----------------------------------------The search is slow, and must progress by checking every detail. Researchers aren't journalists who make papers to say nothing. It's better for them to focus on research and keep us informed when they find something really "important" after doing the necessary checks to make sure it isn't a false discovery. Rome wasn't made in one day. The research does the same, it advances slowly, slowly, but surely as possible. |
