It appears the machine has a Do Not Resuscitate in place. I believe it's eleven years old so I at least got my money's worth. I had slowly been moving things off to other machines and was down to moving my stats cooker which required rewriting it. I'll have to look at getting my hands on a compiler, getting that installed and doing the rewrite. Sigh....

I'm sorry you have to part with it, keithhenry
The good news is you were prepared, so good luck with getting your stats running somewhere else - but it does eat your time, doesn't it? |

Okay folks, I'm still here. Things never happen when it's convenient of course. Last I knew about a good C compiler, you'd go get Borland's. Looks like Borland doesn't even exist now. Sorted thru my options for that and chose to work with CodeBlocks. M$ Visual offering was well recommended but I've learned even if it's free, they'll find a way to get money out of you. They also are usually well overpriced and unnecessarily complicated. Their Azure cloud offerings are about 7-10 times more expensive that you can find elsewhere. It took a few times to get the right version of CodeBlocks installed but that's done and I'm working of the stats cooker. I knew my C skills were rusty but they seem to be worse than I thought though it's coming back. I decided to work off a hard copy of the old stats cooker code (it's a old age thing) and was surprised to find it was 34 pages long.
----------------------------------------To the team and our Base Campers, my apologies for all this. I've not been able to be a proper host to out guests. Thank you for spending most of August with us. Enjoy your visit with Snurk and know that you're welcome back here any time. Thank you to all of you for your patience! |

RT, the short answer is no. I'm still collecting the team data and still plan to catch up on the much overdue posting. A lot has been changing the past month or two and I've been thru a crash course or two. It looks like I will finally actually retire late next spring (I've technically been part-time for a good while now) and my daughter will be finishing her last two years of high school at a nearby state university (tuition, fees and books are free) and then continuing on there for a five-year degree program in architecture. To get licensed as an architect here typically involves a four year degree followed by a two to three year masters degree. She'll be able to do that in five and complete minors in economics and Asian studies as well. If her test scores go well (she already has the grades), she will qualify for a state program that completely covers tuition. That leaves the feds to provide for fees and books. Being close enough to commute will eliminate housing costs that run about the same as the rest of the costs of college but practicality and the rigors of the architecture program will eventually change that decision. I've also been trying to quit ignoring some things and start seeing doctors to address them. I'll be doing the "blue light special" in a few days. I will catch up on posting as soon as I can.
