Re: New Work Unit Numbers

They came in with a July 9 date. They are in the queue behind everything else. No high priority given. It should be noted that the 2 day return time, supposedly required of reliable hosts, seems not be a hard and fast rule. I get resends on machines that have a consistent 3 or more day queue and those units are assigned a high priority and jump everything else in the queue which is OK with me. Back to the original question though, maybe they didn't intend these to be returned quickly.

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

Rule of thumb is, if the remaining deadline time gets to be less than half of the buffer size, the job will jump over the FIFO order, i.e. the job(s) will get the EDF treatment. For instance if the buffer is 1.5 days deep and running full FIFO, a job arriving with 3 days, it will go ahead almost immediately, even though jobs average completion is under 48 hours. Jobs with a deadline less than 24 hours will always jump ahead.

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

Not exactly sure what point you are trying to make. My comment was intended to inform the techs that this batch of 999999xx work came in with a 10 day deadline (unlike the last batch that came in with a 4 day deadline). If it works as you suggest, then I shouldn't have gotten any of the 9999999xx work because none of my work comes back within 2 days. In absence of any other information, I suspect they didn't prioritize any of this work (and the ZIKA Betas) because this is a holiday week and they may not be around to analyze anything. Therefore, the 10 days would be just fine. Of course, just speculation.

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

Doneske,

The 10-day deadline wasn't intentional. There is a script that is supposed to up the priority of these workunits, but that failed (and is being fixed now). Any resends for the workunits in these batches will go out with higher priority though.
