New Work Unit Numbers

Any significance to the MIP999999xx work units? Not flagged as beta and app version doesn't seem to have changed. Is this a test of some kind?

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

Greetings,

These workunits are considered high priority by the researchers. They need these results back faster than putting them in a general queue of work units we download from them. However, we are in talks with them currently about speeding these up even further.

One of the things I have done is over schedule about 9000 work units to reliable hosts to help close out these batches quicker.

The next thing I will do for all new high priority batches that come in is set them for reliable hosts from the beginning. So, these work units going forward will have a 4 day deadline instead of the traditional 10 day deadline.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

Thanks for the information. I just saw a pretty good sized batch of the 999999xx work units with _1 or greater hit my machines. Will all high priority batches have the same 999999xx numbering scheme or will they follow the standard numbering scheme but with shorter deadlines?

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

All of the higher priority batches will be with the 9999 starting. This is to help us move them to the top of the queue.

Thanks,

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

Thanks for the information Uplinger. Do you have any idea why these results are considered high priority by the researchers? I downloaded a bunch of work this morning but only got work from batch 74472

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

They are wanting to use these results for some research with a timeline associated with it. There were only about 50k workunits total so far that have been considered high priority in the past month. With the volunteers processing over 200k per day, this means you most likely will get regular workunits.

I unfortunately don't have any more information about why they are considered high priority.

Thanks,
-Uplinger

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

What is to say: We got no idea why are they "urgent" or anything at all.
I moved myself and a number of hosts to some other projects because of this.
When "donating" something, I want to know where it is going to.

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

Received some more of the 999999xx WUs this morning but they have the normal 10 day deadline. Is this as expected?

Re: New Work Unit Numbers

If they are as uplinger wrote 'overscheduled' i.e. only go to reliable hosts, then that infers of it does not really matter what deadline, long or short, since they know they'll be back within 48 hours.
