Re: FightAIDS@Home, Phase 2 - Project Update, May 2018

I searched my HD and don't have a file that goes by that name.
...
Only a small fraction of casual users would consider that type of customization.

Hey, I'm just trying to offer you a solution to your specific problem (at least as I understand it). biggrin You said:
Also, if there were an easy way for the user to allocate computational slots to a project like what was done with the clean energy project I would consider adding some slots for FAH2.

If you want to run a limited number of FAH2 WUs, you can create a text file named app_config.xml in your C:\ProgramData\BOINC\projects\www.worldcommunitygrid.org folder (/var/lib/boinc-client/projects/www.worldcommunitygrid.org on linux) containing the items I listed in my previous post. Just replace the number in the <max_concurrent>2</max_concurrent> line with however many tasks you wish to run, save the file, then read the config files through Options->Read config files menu in BOINC Manager.

Cheers!

Thanks SMTB1963, I may try that.

Since the research post included an explicit plea for everyone to sign up for phase 2 I thought that I would offer some pathways that would make it more palatable for more users.

I don't know what NixChix's difficulties have been but I know that the 1-day deadline is something that has driven away a lot of users, me included.

Re: FightAIDS@Home, Phase 2 - Project Update, May 2018

Yeah, the 1 day deadline certainly makes running this project problematic - but for me the main annoyance is the uber priority the WUs run at. They actually idle my GPUs if I don't limit them.

My only other gripe about this project is that points seem to be less than other WCG projects (at least for me). So, MORE work for LESS points lol.

But hey, if my hobbies don't give me problems to solve, they won't be my hobbies very long! biggrin

In any event, once I get 20 yrs, I'll be moving on... angel

Yes, it is the 1 day deadline Macroman. It makes this project impossible to run whilst trying to keep a few days of HSTB work. I decided to stay with HSTB and use SCC as the back-up project. I don't like seeing panic mode. I might crunch for FAHB again, but FAHB is at the bottom of my list (just above MCM).

Also my 2 lower-powered computers couldn't finish the job in 1 day and were always "too late". I had to take them off and they won't ever be back. They were 2/3 of my computers.

Cheers coffee

Re: FightAIDS@Home, Phase 2 - Project Update, May 2018

Any new updates from the project scientists ??? It's been months since we hear anything, and would be nice to know what's up and what comes out of those monlthly meetings. I mean we are contributing so much computing power yet we are like in the dark about stuff and it's like keep us engaged and motivated ??? so whats up ?

I expect the work on experiments 001319-001769 will end in about eight months if crunchers keep crunching working units at the same pace. Maybe the next announcement isn't that far away. But that's just my opinion, let's hope they update us sooner.

Re: FightAIDS@Home, Phase 2 - Project Update, May 2018

The project team should listen to us and change the deadline to seven (7) days. They'd get many more work units completed. They're asking us to help them hurry it up and yet they ignore us.
"Our team is processing the current type of work units through World Community Grid as quickly as possible."
Not true, the 24 hour deadline proves that.
"We also encourage everyone to opt in to Phase 2 of the project—the more quickly we can run through the current work units, the sooner we can move ahead to new compounds."
Seriously, you want to speed it up then change the deadline to 7 days.

Re: FightAIDS@Home, Phase 2 - Project Update, May 2018

Why it is one day only at the first place? This question probably has been covered long time ago but I can't find anything about it if there is anything...

Me personally have no problem with it being one day only since it takes just around two hours to process current tasks (to highlight it, _current_ tasks).

Re: FightAIDS@Home, Phase 2 - Project Update, May 2018

One calculation is comprised of a series of work units. The result of one work unit provides the input for the next work unit in the series. I have a work unit running which is the 157th in a series. How long would the series take with longer deadlines?

Re: FightAIDS@Home, Phase 2 - Project Update, May 2018

I asked this question 2 weeks ago and we got NOTHING ! ZERO answers. We are kept in the dark and are taken for granted, yet we are the ones donating our computer time to the project... so let me ask again and hopefully someone will answer this time around..

AGAIN:
