People who configure project execution criteria seem to be playing the system to get more crunch resources than competitive projects. I notice that WCG tasks run tasks for extended deadlines before tasks with deadlines about to expire. I also receive tasks with a one-day deadline in my most recent downloads. What is the execution order for WCG tasks? Is it first-in first-out (FIFO), last-in first-out (LIFO), first-in still-here (FISH) or some weird combination of the above?
Suggest WCG run tasks in the ascending order of their deadline date and time. |

The execution order algorithm is built into the BOINC software, and is a little opaque. It seems to be FIFO unless a task is in danger of missing its deadline, in which case that task will "jump the queue". Basically, BOINC does its best to make sure that at as many tasks as possible do not miss their deadlines.
