Thank you Papabyte
----------------------------------------I thought I might still be screwed but I am actually at 280/360 We will just have to be more mindful when upgrading OS etc. ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by OldChap at Nov 21, 2018 8:40:46 AM] |

Here is the situation. As you may know, the Byteball distribution is ephemeral, there is only a limited number of bytes to be placed in circulation. The goal of the initial distribution is to put bytes in as many hands as possible through various methods. The method rewarding WCG crunchers is awesome cause we are doing good meanwhile. We've constated that the WCG distribution became more and more industrialized. The large majority of bytes were distributed to: - Pools mining other cryptocurrencies as well, they sell directly the reward and their users don't even touch a Byteball wallet. - Opportunistic aggegators that run whatever is the most profitable for a CPU on the moment, their users don't even know they run WCG. The categories above have account with thousands of devices linked. - Individuals having hundreds or thousands devices linked, they mostly steathly install WCG on computers that don't belong to them and thus steal CPU power. To mitigate this problem, we decided to limit the reward for accounts having more than 40 devices linked. When an account has more than 40 devices, this coefficient is applied to the reward: coeff = number of devices linked / 40 We know that it is not optimal, that abusers will adapt by creating multiple accounts, but at least we get out computers not in their control anymore and we complicate the business of crunching aggregators. We know that it annoys some long-term contributors, having legitimately many devices, who will have to redirect machines to a new account to continue to get full reward. We are really sorry for that. But given the limited data we have access to, this was the better compromise we've found to keep this distribution beneficial for us and for WCG on long-term. For the last distribution, there was a glitch. Some scores were crawled before the bot was patched, this is why the limit didn't apply to every big account. Everything will be correct tomorrow. -1 Thinking that everyone with large pool is a crook, is a "bad way of thinking". ![]() |

Byteball brought me to WCG. For now, I have spent almost 3 years of computing power since April 2018 :)

Dear WCG cruncher, First of all we want to wish you Happy Holidays with your friends and family! Last time we wrote you about diminishing returns for more than 40 connected devices. This measure alone has proven to be ineffective. Unfortunately we are going to have to change the rules a second time. Again, WCG rewards are meant for new users to be able to discover Byteball by donating some spare CPU power to a good cause, not to make money. For now we are going to reduce the reward to $1 per 1,000,000 WCG points earned, effective from Monday December 24 on. This way the method will still work like a faucet but it will be much harder to make a profit, which was never intended. We’ll monitor what this change does and make further changes when necessary. Happy crunching :) The Byteball Team [Edit 1 times, last edit by poppageek at Dec 20, 2018 6:18:47 PM] |

Happy crunching :) The Byteball Team Wow, 90% reduction in rewards! Don't you think this is a bit radical? At this rate, I agree it is not technically possible to cover electricity costs at all. Yeah, BOINC started non-profit, and many people simply crunched for free for many years; but I believe WCG people really enjoyed the momentum their research gained due to these crypto give-aways. Well I guess every good thing really has an end :( |

Nice, REAL nice.
----------------------------------------Yet again the over simplistic measures penalise the small producers and favour the big guys on their own team. This has nothing to do with protecting the distribution and everything to do with rewarding the very people they claim to be trying to control. Since, if you have any shred of integrity over this @Byteball Team, you'd be limiting the rewards on a sliding scale so the big producers, the very commercial farmers you claim to be reigning in, on your own team are the ones to wear the brunt of the measures rather than the little guys making under a half million WCG points a day. As if the last disaster wasn't lazy coding enough, this is even worse! ![]() Currently being moderated under false pretences |

This isn't and never was about helping a good cause. These cryptocrap outfits like to attach to a worthy project so it makes them look good. It is about a few individuals getting rich and nothing else.
Oh yeah! And a Merry Christmas to you too! |
