Currently 17 WUs show up in my results status page, and 13 of those are repair units. It may because I maintain a very small cache, and my results are returned quickly.

Yes, I think keeping a smaller cache, or having a quick turnaround time causes the system to see you as more reliable. I also have a small cache and am also receiving lots of repair jobs

100% (literally) of my Windows Ebola WUs are repair units from Windows 10 machines running client version 7.2.47. The older client lists the devices as Windows 8.1, but the Error logs, when available, show W10.
----------------------------------------My cache is set to 0.2 days = 4.8 hours since I only want enough of a buffer to last through a WCG maintenance period or unexpected upstream outage, which typically last 1-2 hours. The project is unnecessarily set back farther because the people who own these machines refuse to be on 7.8.3, the latest version of the BOINC client. And it doesn't help things that WCG is also that behind. No word from WCG employees despite my asking. Nobody cares about inefficiency.

The efficiency of a project depends on the science application code. The version of BOINC makes a negligible difference.
boinc.exe has used 1.5 seconds CPU time in the hour since I started my PC this morning. It is shown as using 0.01% of my computer. The 8 science applications are shown using between 12.04% and 12.34% each. |

Nobody is saying that older versions of BOINC use more CPU cycles. What people are saying is that there is a clear pattern that Error'd Ebola work units are Win10 boxes running 7.2.47 that completely Error out. It's the error that totally tanks the Work Unit, since it turns a "Quorum 1, Replication 1" work unit into a "Quorum 2, Replication 2" Work Unit, which literally doubles the workload. That's where the inefficiency lies.

Project status on the research page suddenly jumped to 93% with ECD of Dec-2018. Is that real, or just some glitch?

The past 6 weeks we have gone from about 60,000 WUs per day to around 150,000 per day. That is almost triple the return. Will be moving 200 threads to this project at 1100 UTC tomorrow. BTW, Thor Challenge is coming up in about 10 days

That's right, the progress seemed to steadily reflect this, but yesterday it suddenly jumped from 82% to 93.
----------------------------------------And an even bigger jump happened to SCC1 the same day. So I'm wondering whether this is just a glitch, or someone fixed the progress and now it's showing the correct status. ![]() |
