It is a Windows 10 computer. Don't know if I need to tweak the settings or not, it's running much more now. Don't know if I could or should run GPU units either. Mike Hey RT! Mike, look around under Settings, System, Power and Sleep and set the display to Never, Settings, Personalization, Lock screen and scroll down to Screen Saver settings and set it to None. On the Power and Sleep, you may want to click on Additional Power Settings instead, click on Show Additional Plans, select High Performance and then change it to set display to Never. |

I think I do things a bit differently than Keith (and likely others) The reason I have GPU units set on is that if and when we get any GPU units at WCG, then if your machine has a big enough GPU, they will run and if it interferes with your computer usage, you can always turn off the GPU units. If you prefer you can leave it off since there is no work at WCG for GPUs anyway. (see below where I have mine set) Settings: Control Panel > All Control Panel Items > Power Options >edit the Plan Settings. I have all mine set at Display 10 minutes and Computer sleeping set at "Never" Use Cortina to find the screen saver settings and set the screen saver to "Blank" and wait time set to 5 minutes. Since I am the only person on or around my computer, I have the "On resume, display logon screen" unchecked. Now under Boinc (WCG) I have under Activity Run Always Use GPU Always Network activity always available. Those are my settings. I am pleased with the way they work. Anyone else chime in. These are just my preferences. |

These are just my preferences. Yep, preferences are just that. I quit having any screensaver set a very long time ago. I'd rather put whatever bit of CPU it uses to crunching. Now if your machine is at work or somewhere where others can get to it, a screensaver might be a good thing. I had forgotten all about the BOINC activity settings. I can't remember the last time I didn't have Run and Network both set to Always. That did make me recall this - one of your BOINC device profiles is marked as Default. You can set this in the profile you want. That profile gets assigned to a new device when you attach it to a project (WCG). If you have more than one device profile and the default one is not the one your other machines are assigned, it could have different settings for Run and Network and that's why Mike's new machine didn't crunch all the time at first. |
