When you folks say the gtx 1030 and 1050 and 1060, I am assuming you mean the Gigabyte Geforce GTX 10XX models right? For example, the 1050 at Amazon is $119 US: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MG0733A/ref=psdc_284822_t3_B071DY2VJR It has 650 CUDA cores. Does each core get a WU and thus there are 650 WUs crunching at once? I don't think that's the answer but I thought I would ask...I couldn't find anything on Google about CUDA and BOINC to answer my question. Thanks again. Hi, Again, there are currently no WCG projects that crunch using graphics cards. I'm not sure when one will be introduced again. To answer your question, though, other boinc projects crunch 1 WU per GPU. If you just leave them, GPUs will work on 1WU with some extra power from CPU. BUT, if you configure them like I have configured my: - GT 730 & 1030 to crunch 2 WUs in the same time - GTX 1050Ti to crunch 3-4 WUs (depending on the app) in the same time So it can crunch several WUs. But it also comes at a cost of giving more % of you CPU to feed the GPU. ![]() |

You do that with app_config.xml. Samples probably in the GPU support or the Help Conquer Cancer Forum. Essentially you set a fraction value for the GPU and the CPU side of the app.

Add this to the app_config.xml in the GPU's project folder. For gpu_usage = 1 is 1 task per card. 0.5 is 2 per card. 0.33 is 3 per card, etc. Useful if the GPU app does not use a full GPU.
----------------------------------------cpu_usage summed up from # of GPU tasks will tell BM how many CPUs to reserve for GPU crunching. It does not change the CPU usage of the actual GPU task. Just how many CPUs to NOT run CPU tasks. <app_config> <app> <name>**APP_NAME_HERE*</name> <fraction_done_exact/> <gpu_versions> <gpu_usage>0.5</gpu_usage> <cpu_usage>0.5</cpu_usage> </gpu_versions> </app> </app_config> Read configs and check event log to get the correct app names for the project. ![]() |

Hi,
----------------------------------------thank you. Will this work for any boinc project, not just WCG which currently has no GPU projects available? I got a surface book with the Nvidia graphics card I wonder how it will function? thanks

Just started running CPU for WCG. It runs super quiet and so far isn't overheating. Not sure I want to add the GPU to that, though, even though it's in the keyboard dock. The fan vents are all along the edges of the tablet portion. Super neat design. I think the fan for the GPU is also in the dock and vent out the hinges, maybe I'm wrong?
