Hi. I have two PCs with different CPUs:
----------------------------------------Intel i5-4690k (4800 / 16100 millions operations per second) AMD Ryzen 7 1700 (4550 / 16100 millions operations per second) The first take about 2.5 - 3 hours to complete a task, the second 3.5 - 4.5 hours. What is the reason of this difference?

Edit:
----------------------------------------The PC with the Intel processor works at 50% of CPU power, so with 2 of 4 cores The PC with the Ryzen processor works at 88%, so with 14 of 16 cores.

There are so many reasons why it can be that?
----------------------------------------- North bridge flaw of data - CPU cache size (L1 - L3) - using HT or not - FSB & RAM speed not to mention software: - is it the same system? - both x64 OS? - use of programs on the system? - use of GPU or BOINC GPU apps? - Update OS in those days... etc. ;) |

Edit: The PC with the Intel processor works at 50% of CPU power, so with 2 of 4 cores The PC with the Ryzen processor works at 88%, so with 14 of 16 cores. This kinda explains it. See, your i5 is using a single physical core for each WU, whereas your Ryzen has to use 1 physical core to feed 2 separate WU due to multihreading. ![]() Want to have an image of yourself like this on? Would this explain why a core 2 duo is getting very nearly the same completion time as my fx8350?
----------------------------------------Poor intel atom d2550 having one MCM task complete in 27 hours, though. The fx is running a solid state drive and 16 gb whereas the core 2 duo is running 4 GB and a 160 gb hard drive. The intel is also running windows 7 whereas the AMD is running 10...does this make a difference? I've noticed people say that linux is quicker - and while I don't want to change my main OS to linux maybe I can try crunching on it on something I don't much care about.

Ok, I just overclocked the Ryzen 7 from 3.2GHz (stock frequency using more cores) to 3.7. Now it takes 3:30 hours per task. The next month I'll buy a liquid cooler so I think I can try to reach 4GHz (or more I hope).

Confusing.
----------------------------------------You would think that a 3 year old intel processor would be further behind. I mean, considering ryzen was keeping up to skylake handily. *shrug*. I guess that means more energy for the AMD to use to get the same amount of computing done per core, though 12 times more of it :P. How does the 1700x compare? How about the i7 8700 and 8700k?

The Intel processor is installed in a work office PC, so I don't have direct contact with it. Probably someone has overclocked it and now it works faster than my Ryzen (installed in my home PC).

How likely would that be for an 'office' machine to be overclocked or volted?
