Task has 100% and still counting

Hi I have problem with latest version of BOINC client on Windows 7 x64 pro.
Task has 100% and still computing. For 1 hour task, it will compute about 7 hours. After that, I reboot pc and task is out of list.
It happens about one times per week.

How can I solve it? It is wasting of my cpu time...

My question on boinc forum: http://boinc.berkeley.edu/dev/forum_thread.php?id=11758#79869

Thanks for help.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/1vtzlutvt3tq2i0/boinc_wcg.png?dl=0

1) 01:13:39 task compute 10:26:36 and have only 99.973%.
2) 00:43:55 task compute 09:41:55 and have only 99.999%

How can I fix it?

Re: Task has 100% and still counting

Is the elapsed time on the problem tasks still counting up?
On the tab "transfers", are there items awaiting for uploading?
Are there any tasks that progress and complete "normally"?

Re: Task has 100% and still counting

Normally, once a task completes and starts to upload, BOINCManager will change the status from Running to Uploading. Once uploaded, it will change to Ready to Report and then it will disappear once that is done. This could be a connectivity issue. I would say the next time you see this, make a note of the task name and the click on the Update button on the Projects tab. Thinking about this though, a short connectivity issue should also interrupt the upload and report. If not, BOINC should update when that happens. Also, you want to check Results Status on the website to confirm that the task did finish. Could there be something else running on the computer that is temporarily hogging the CPU? Check the Event Log (under the Tools tab) and see if there are any messages there that point to some error - like a disk full condition perhaps. When BOINC finishes a task, there is normally some data/results written to one or more files that then get uploaded back to the WCG servers. Sometimes, a task may show 100% while those files are created but that normally doesn't take long. The main things are - does hitting Update help any, any there any messages in the Event log that indicates an error/problem, and does the task show in Results Status and how (Valid, Pending, etc.).

Re: Task has 100% and still counting

If I click on update (multiple times) button on WCG project nothing happens.

On transfer tab there are nothing.

Most of tasks works good.

On this pc with Win 7 pro x64 (virtual in proxmox) are only boinc client and IRC client (hexchat).
I have limit on cpu usage in boinc client - 40%.

Is there any way how can I check if task was already uploaded and points counted to my account?

Re: Task has 100% and still counting

I have seen this happen periodically where tasks get "stuck".
From least to most drastic:

1. suspend all task in the queue waiting to run (so they won't start) and then suspend the "stuck" task and resume it.

2. If #1 doesn't work, stop and restart the boinc client. WU should reset to last checkpoint.

3. If #2 doesn't work, Reboot the machine and see if the task resets.

Of course you can always do #3 without the other steps but that is up to you. The task should reset. If it doesn't, I would abort the task. If this happens often, it may be that your machine just has trouble with VINA for some reason. Probably related to the type of processor. I had one machine that just trouble running VINA. All others worked fine. Try another project like MCM just to see if the same thing happens. If not, it must be VINA. If it happens on all projects, it must be the device.

Re: Task has 100% and still counting

What happened to LAIM (Leave Application In Memory, when suspended **) on/off for point 1 to work? When suspending the offending task, there's a message in the event log to say the task was held, or removed from memory. Only when removed, will the 'reset to last checkpoint' work.

** changed name in newer clients.

Re: Task has 100% and still counting

I have LAIM specified in all my clients and have been able to reset the WU without changing the setting. It may be the act of restarting that resets the WU regardless of where it resumes from...

Re: Task has 100% and still counting

Well, can assure up to the last decimal fraction of pi, that with LAIM 'On', there wont be any unloading on running task suspend (the event log will confirm) i.e. your resort to point 2 to get it forced doing the trick for you. Think (know for sure), I've written an Community FAQ on the 'How To', which dates back to the HPF1/HPF2 days, possibly revisted mre frequent on the coming project launch, but equally applying to all sciences. With 37C, 42C RF, not lifting more fingers than necessary i.e. too lazy to look, and even then it's gushing down me spine. drooling

Notably, with a task possibly into zombie state (orphaned in old speak), it is advised to check task/process manager to see that all WCG apps have truly departed. Not very likely as than all time counters in the BOINC Manager would have stopped.

Re: Task has 100% and still counting

Agree with your point concerning the checkpoint in option #1. I edited the post make it more accurate. However, the point of the post was to do a restart of some kind to "kick" the WU free and have it start over. First thought would be that Option #1 isn't going to work with LAIM but have personally witnessed that it happen, but not often. It may have to do with the exact state of the WU at suspend but just guessing. Your point concerning the checkpoint reset in option 1 is well taken and post has been edited.
