Actually, what would also be helpful to define use of BOINC (only CPU, GPU + CPU) for the different criteria:
----------------------------------------1. in blank screen (not during the working on computer) 2. while apps not present (exclusive apps) - something like based on prefereneces 3. all the time Why? Well, some GPU products such as Einstein@home, GPUgrid & even some settings in SETi@home can slow down the work on computer...so if I'd like to participate in GPUgrid or Einstein@home, I'd like to use CPU+GPU setting for those apps only when in "blank screen" (when I'm not using the computer)...& when I'm working on computer I'd like to use some low consumption & less disruptive apps on BOINC such as SETi@home, which doesn't disrupt my work when browsing & writing this post (for example). ;) |

My main issue is the outdated Android application, it hasn't been updated for more than a year. It's interface is outdated and unintuitive. It's a great idea , that when people charge their phone overnight, they help finding cure for diseases. The interface has to be friendly, encouraging with a positive message (with colours, icons and texts). For example it would be nice to wake up, check my phone and a friendly notification would greet me and inform me that while I was sleeping I helped cure cancer/zika/HIV...
----------------------------------------Please take a look at the Folding@Home app for simplicity and inspiration. Also the desktop version needs major overhaul, I would add a simple mode that just woks in the background with limited CPU/GPU usage. I am using it on my iMac and it;s annoying to hear that my fans are working full speed. For everyday users it shouldn't use the maximum CPU/GPU power so the app could stay on without any performance/noise/heat effect. Also to simplify the installation and get more people using BOINC I would create a version for the Windows 10 Store and Mac App Store. [Edit 1 times, last edit by Migusz at Jul 28, 2017 4:49:03 PM] |

The out of the box WCG default profile is 50% or 60% CPU time, and run based on preferences (global, from website), exactly because of the FAN whine (though the origins is to protect poor cooling devices such as laptops)
----------------------------------------BTW, you dont say when you last explored the client, but there's since quite a few years a 'Simple View' and an 'Advanced View' of the BOINC Manager. ... I would create a version for the Windows 10 Store and Mac App Store. Both require that BOINC has all project applications included, because neither allows any applications in the store that download other applications, out of security scares. So that would mean that BOINC in those stores would be several hundreds of megabytes big and each time a project changes one or more applications a new BOINC with all the applications built in would have to be built and released. Not impossible, but not very practical either.
