sad What has happened to the progress bar!! Mapping cancer markers now 50%

Errrrm? What has happened to the project progress?

It was at 95% until very recently and now it's at 55%?

We were due to complete this project in September 2017 and now?

Goalposts moved?

Can someone please explain what's going on - has data been lost or added?

Confused!

Everything is ok, just more work was added (as expected).

zombie3, Cancer, in its numerous forms, results in a huge amount of data to sift through in order for the scientists to select the more interesting/useful targets - and that's where WCG comes in. They've just added a whole new bunch of work for us to chew through. Thus, as kva.pl has said, nothing to worry about - no data's been lost, just more work added.

The more data we can sift, the more chance the scientists will be able to focus in on curing this deadly disease.

Yes, there got to be even more work... Sgt Joe in the other thread estimates that current batches will last us until March 2020. But I strongly believe there will be more work units to be added between now and 2020. This cancer project is likely to last pretty much forever as there are just so many types of them and don't forget cancer cells will evolve from now until 2020.

Oh thanks. I thought I was going a bit mad - it was unexpected that's all.

I had hoped that this (ongoing) project would have at least one phase completed before we embarked on a new swathe of data.

I'm just assuming that once we hit 100% then meaningful research could be obtained.

Are the research results used mid project (and ongoing?) or do they always wait until all the data is crunched?

Re: What has happened to the progress bar!! Mapping cancer markers now 50%

This project has been extended several times already so I wouldn't be surprised if they extended it again in the future as well. A previous time (last time?) was a few days away from hitting 100% and then they added another 6+ months into the mix.

One of the nice things about projects getting extended is the completed data sometimes gives them new leads or ideas or things to try. This project has nearly 350,000 years of cumulative run-time as well (link) so it'll take them quite a long time to sift through everything even after the project is completed.

Yes, they are. As I said before - nothing to be worried about.

Thank God, there's more cancers to be researched this way...we might find a way to cope for those suffering! ;)
