WCG has a problem with the EOD stats update - it still shows the same mid-day numbers but with the EOD timestamp. If and when that gets fixed, I'll post our stats here.

It looks like I finally have the one i7 machine done with the latest Windows updates. The latest "feature" update - 1703 - is a bit of a bear. It takes a good two hours to go from restarting your machine to begin the update to getting back to a usable machine. There have been some changes to the update process by M$. I want to say that the 1607 "feature" update added these but I'm not 100%. Under Settings, Windows Update, there is an Update Settings section that now has a "change active hours" option. You can define a timeframe during the day (up to 12 hours) during which Windows will NOT restart your machine on you. After the 1703 update, you can expand that to 18 hours. M$ puts it this way:

Set active hours to let us know when you typically use this device. We won’t automatically restart it during active hours, and we won’t restart without checking if you’re using it.


Not sure exactly what that second half of the last sentence really means (how do they define "using it"). The "change active hours" option does not seem to appear when you have updates, just when there are no updates to apply. The "restart options" option lets you schedule a time to restart your machine (I don't know how many days out you can go) if you have a restart pending. You can also set a nag level for when it's getting close to that time.

It's possible some of these changes may have been in the "anniversary" update in some form but I only saw them once I had the 1607 update on. This just might be something that could help avoid finding a machine sitting at the Windows login screen for the past 12-18 hours.

EDIT: Also, it appears that you definitely want to defrag your hard drive after any of these "feature" updates. They seem to leave the hard drive extensively fragmented.

Well, the end of day stats have run and today's numbers look okay just with respect to today. We are still missing half a days worth of work for yesterday. It's a mess. I do have copies of the data for yesterday and today but am holding off posting the stats for both days until the admins can look at the issue tomorrow (hopefully). Once the admins do correct things, I don't know of any way to go back and get "corrected" data for yesterday. We'll probably end up with inflated numbers for Monday to include the missing part of Saturday. This is making my head hurt! The REAL worry is what OTHER more serious problems could happen and go unawares by the admins because they don't have the right post-cloud-move monitoring in place.
