Forum errors

mvnForum Fatal Error Message : Cannot init system. Reason : Assertion in OnlineUserFactoryImpl.
Are others seeing this occasionally when trying to access the Forum? I have been, only since the move to IBM Cloud, I think. I'm surprised there's been no comment from techs. The only previous reports are from 2009 - has that 2009 fix not been applied to the latest incarnation? Presumably nothing a user can do when it occurs except wait for it to be fixed?

Re: Forum errors

Been seeing them since the migration to IBM's house cloud, sometimes 2-3 times a day, like today, and sometimes taking multi-minute periods to come back, so much so that it seems to affect my hunting tool too... it says there's some fail in the connect and then postpones for 30 seconds before retrying, 1 ping only please , so if after a minute it is still the case, it gives up with a message generated by

420 Application.Run "OopsBoxTimer"

where the script re-tries, before going out :(.

Re: Forum errors

We actually deployed a change about 2 hours ago that should fix this.

The forums code contains the "2009 fix" which is entirely unrelated to the current issue which has been resolved.

Re: Forum errors

That message has been appearing in past too... the gist is all the same "mvnForum Fatal Error Message : Cannot init system." with alternating suffix, as previously noted, is crashes crashed my hunting tool scripts too. Today going directly to My Contribution continued working, but when signing-out, the "mvnForum Fatal Error Message : Cannot init system." interjected too, even though one would expect to be transported back to the WCG home page or slide show.

I spoke to soon as you can see by the posts above.

The forums have this lovely feature that it will disable itself if certain types of errors occur - even if they are user specific. We changed some of that code yesterday so that 1) we got more information about why the user was having the error and 2) for the case that we had observed in the log, we took out the code that would disable the forums for everyone.

It appears that there are more than one path to this issue and so we will continue to investigate and fix the issues.
