I have a new Lenovo Yoga 720 and cannot seem to achieve higher than 27% CPU utilization when plugged in. All My other computers are running at 100%. I am running windows 10, Boinc version 7.6.33 . My local preferences are set to Use at most 100% of the CPU, Use at most 100% of CPU time. I checked the BIOS and did not see any option to limit CPU. Is there some windows option that can limit CPU? Why am I only getting 27% CPU utilization and not 100% like my other computers?

Only one way, to disassemble the laptop to increase cooling!
----------------------------------------Had a similar one in firm. It's too packed to use more than 50% of Tthrottle... ;) |

Make sure this part of your profile lists at least 8 processors.

If you are using version 6.2 of the software, then the number of processors used will be the lesser of the two fields below. If you are using a version before 6.2, then only the 'at most' field will be used.
----------------------------------------On multiprocessors, at most use: 32 processors On multiprocessors, use: 100 % of processors Each of 8 processors are using 3.1-3.2% ![]() ![]() ![]() [Edit 1 times, last edit by mclaver at May 22, 2017 6:24:25 PM] |

@mclaver
Looking at your joining date and multitude of badges, you have more experience and knowledge than me but I would like to ask some questions: What does Boinc Manager show as running? What processes does Windows Task Manager show as using most CPU? I noticed that Boinc is the VirtualBox version – Is the virtual machine where Boinc is running getting its share of CPU cycles? |

Each of 8 processors are showing 3.2% and overall CPU is maxing out at 27% so there is plenty of room. I would expect each processor to be running at least 12% if nothing else is active. I did not notice I installed the Virtual BOX version, I do not need that.
----------------------------------------I do have a lot of expirience but this is a new computer and I have never had the CPU limited before. All my other computers in the house I have built myself...this is my first store bought computer in a long time so maybe that is the problem :) ![]() ![]() ![]() |

You're probably being fooled and the MS joke could be on you... If the machine thinks it's 32 core, then 100‰ load of 1/32nd would show as about what you observe.
