Turning off HT

Hi.

Could anyone please let me know how to turn of HT? I have the following;

Fujitsu Siemens Scaleo P
3.40 GHz
1.25 GB RAM

I ask this because when I am running the WCG agent, Task Manager tells me that I am using only 50% of the available CPU cycles.

Thank you.

D.

Re: Turning off HT

I would recommend not switching off Hyperthreading. Doing so will not gain you as much as you think (if anything).

If you do not have hyperthreading enabled Task Manager reports the 'true' CPU utilization. If it is enabled, Task Manager reports 50% utilization if only 1 thread is running. If you have anything else running on the machine, it will use the second thread and leave the crunching one alone.

Re: Turning off HT

Hi Ice Queen

It is normal to show only 50% usage - this is because HT 'fools' Windows into thinking there are 2 processors when there is in fact only 1 of course. There has been some debate, on this forum and quite a few others that I have seen, about whether having HT actually does any good with applications that are not specifically written for it. I can't comment on this debate but I also run a P4 with HT and have found no problems so far smile
