Hi everyone,
I'm a user since 2008 but due to computer problems (G5 processor) I had to stop working after a few months. Last year I restarted with a Mac Mini Server 2011 (quad core i7) with OS X 10.8.5. I downloaded the Boinc client from WCG website (7.2.42) and then updated (7.6.33). Everything works perfectly, never an error or invalid result. A few days ago I did the same thing on a Mac Mini Late 2009 (Core2 Duo) running OS X 10.6.8, but, with my surprise, i get all invalid results… ![]() I checked the event register and looks all right, no errors reported... I tried uninstalling the BOINC client with the appropriate tool, re-download the latest version (7.6.34) and reinstall, but always all invalid results. ![]() On this machine was installed an old version of VirtualBox (4.3) and I uninstalled it, but no change… ![]() I'm just working on the Smash Childhood Cancer project, so I suspended it and tried 2 WU of OpenZika project, both invalid… ![]() I resumed my account on SETI@home and tried one WU from it, but at this time I'm still waiting for validation (it may take a long time) I search both the Boinc and the WCG forum, but I have not found any problems like mine, only similar, old or useless in this case. As already mentioned by other users, the system requirements page does not specify which OS versions are supported, so i don't known if this is an HW, SW or OS problem. ![]() I do not think it's a hw problem, this machine is as solid as a rock, and often I have used all available memory (8 GB) without problems. The only programs that run along the Boinc Client are EyeTV (to watch TV on your computer via a USB decoder) and the Screen Sharing (for the remote control of the other Mac Mini). I tried for 6 hours without these programs and nothing has changed. At this point seems an OS (or processor?) compatibility issue or a configuration error. Thanks in advance for any ideas ![]() this is the event register after Boinc client start: Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | cc_config.xml not found - using defaults Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Starting BOINC client version 7.6.34 for x86_64-apple-darwin Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | log flags: file_xfer, sched_ops, task Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Libraries: libcurl/7.47.1 OpenSSL/1.0.2g zlib/1.2.3 c-ares/1.10.0 Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Data directory: /Library/Application Support/BOINC Data Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | OpenCL: NVIDIA GPU 0: GeForce 9400 (driver version CLH 1.0, device version OpenCL 1.0, 256MB, 256MB available, 211 GFLOPS peak) Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | OpenCL CPU: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P7550 @ 2.26GHz (OpenCL driver vendor: Apple, driver version 1.0, device version OpenCL 1.0) Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Host name: Rayla.local Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Processor: 2 GenuineIntel Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P7550 @ 2.26GHz [x86 Family 6 Model 23 Stepping 10] Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Processor features: fpu vme de pse tsc msr pae mce cx8 apic sep mtrr pge mca cmov pat pse36 clfsh ds acpi mmx fxsr sse sse2 ss htt tm pbe pni dtes64 mon dscpl vmx est tm2 ssse3 cx16 tpr pdcm sse4_1 xsave Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | OS: Mac OS X 10.6.8 (Darwin 10.8.0) Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Memory: 8.00 GB physical, 18.52 GB virtual Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Disk: 59.64 GB total, 18.28 GB free Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Local time is UTC +2 hours Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | SETI@home | URL http://setiathome.berkeley.edu/; Computer ID 8244081; resource share 38 Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | World Community Grid | URL http://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/; Computer ID 3865222; resource share 100 Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | World Community Grid | General prefs: from World Community Grid (last modified 12-Apr-2017 12:43:25) Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | World Community Grid | Host location: none Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | World Community Grid | General prefs: using your defaults Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Reading preferences override file Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | Preferences: Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | max memory usage when active: 4096.00MB Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | max memory usage when idle: 7372.80MB Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | max disk usage: 17.30GB Mer 12 Apr 17:09:05 2017 | | (to change preferences, visit a project web site or select Preferences in the Manager) this is a tipical WU cycle: Gio 13 Apr 01:37:34 2017 | World Community Grid | Computation for task SCC1_0000277_Lin-ZNF-B_38777_0 finished Gio 13 Apr 01:37:34 2017 | World Community Grid | Starting task SCC1_0000277_Lin-ZNF-B_96303_0 Gio 13 Apr 01:37:37 2017 | World Community Grid | Started upload of SCC1_0000277_Lin-ZNF-B_38777_0_r1083702586_0 Gio 13 Apr 01:37:41 2017 | World Community Grid | Finished upload of SCC1_0000277_Lin-ZNF-B_38777_0_r1083702586_0 and this is a tipical WU result log from WCG: Result Log Result Name: SCC1_ 0000279_ Lin-ZNF-C_ 2416_ 0-- <core_client_version>7.6.34</core_client_version> <![CDATA[ <stderr_txt> INFO: result number = 0 INFO: No state to restore. Very complete report. Suggest you try a non-Vina based science such as MCM, mapping cancer markers and see what happens.

SekeRob *, thanks for the suggestions
I'm now trying one MCM WU, I just hope not to wait 10 days for validation.... I have read that sometimes strange things happen with vina-based projects. Is there a way to figure out which projects are vina-based? |

The executable has the science engine name in it. OET, SCC, ZIKA and FAAH run off VINA. (if memory serves me well 🙃
----------------------------------------Edit:correction, FAH2 runs BEDAM, but run very long as can HST1, and hard to get. [Edit 3 times, last edit by SekeRob* at Apr 13, 2017 10:47:00 AM] |

Corrected post, it really being FAHV, the V for VINA, as part of the FAAH phase 1 project to make confusion complete😩

The SETI WU has been properly validated and the MCM WU is still in validation.
SekeRob*, I think you are right about the vina-based. I did some more testing with SCC WUs, but i got always invalid results, so now I have canceled all remaining WUs in the queue. Thanks for support ![]() |
