Sometime last night 4 of my 5 machines got a windows update so they were off line for at least 5 hrs. My normal average daily results are 15 days/day. Today it was 11 days. Has anyone estimated the knock on WCG results connected to windows updates? I would think the number is huge.

One of mine was offline for a couple of days this week. Almost had a couple wu's expire on me, but I was lucky enough to catch it before that happened.

Part of it is the Microsoft Windows update, and part of it is also in the configuration of both the hardware and other software. Computers with platter drives may, under certain hardware configurations cause WCG to stop; due to items such as the Microsoft Malicious software removal tool both uninstalling, but more importantly checking through some of your system. A similar effect could also be observed through other portions of the update.
As with ALL Microsoft updates, it will also need to verify that ALL of the hardware and software is a valid copy. It will also "knock WCG" into a type of standby *longer* with platter hard drives. Some computer companies also have their hardware defrag during the Microsoft update sessions. One can always check on the Microsoft website and also their forums. For some, it might be a good idea to postpone updates to at least only once every two to three months. |

In my case it was a system reboot post update. I just didn't realize it had rebooted and so didn't log it back in.

The remedy to that is 'of course' to install BOINC as a service, which adds stronger sandboxing safety to with... it makes BOINC run without being logged in, right after booting. Visit the infamous RTFM on how to [think I wrote one which is part of the Community FAQ's with screenshots , to make it hand-held easy ;o].

That would remedy the issue. If it becomes an issue for me I'll look into it.

It has been years since I even heard about such a thing. I guess 1992 playing with my dos based HP palmtop. Since my high output desktops are upstairs in the "cat room" which has a barrier to keep dogs away from cat food and litter boxes, I do not always know their status. ![]() ![]() |

Seke... I did a search for the RTFM within the WCG and just found references to the Read The "Friendly" Manual. (SNAFU does not have friendly in it) Would you please post the url for RTFM?
