Peiorities

Does anyone know how WCG decides the order in which the tasks run? I’ve noticed that when the program downloads a variety of different tasks from different projects it always runs all the “mapping cancer markers” tasks first. While finding information about cancer is a worthwhile goal, I would think that finding effective treatments for Ebola and developing a safe and effective vaccine for Zika should have a higher priority. Who assigns the priorities and is money involved?

Re: Peiorities

Work supply does not [in capitals] determine processing order... its FIFO unless you set your buffers too high, which is when the client switches to EDF. (standard BOINC acronyms).

To prevent EDF it's recommended to not set the buffer higher than half of the shortest deadline, so with FAH2 being standard 4 days, repairs being shorter some even 2.8 days, buffer is best not set above 1.3 days (including the extra) which then keeps most everything going the FIFO order.

Re: Peiorities

Thanks. I should have realized that it had to do with Boinc’s fear of missing short deadlines. smile
