Delayed Validation

I'm noticing that of all the WUs I recently crunched during the WCG challenge since Tuesday that only >1< has been validated (even though it seems SCC didn't start appearing to a couple days later).

Is this on the server side or is the project waiting for other results to be returned before awaiting credit? Currently I only have this and one other WCG project set to run to catch them up on credits/badge level with the others.

Re: Delayed Validation

Click on the wu name and you can see if you have a so called wingman or if you are the only one for this wu.

Re: Delayed Validation

Ahh okay, I suspected that. Now I understand the Wingman term. :)

So it's just waiting for the WUs to get out there in sufficient numbers.

Re: Delayed Validation

Some projects send out multiple copies of work to different computers. The server waits until they are all returned for comparison in a process called validation. The first back is in "pending validation" status until the other(s) is returned. Many crunchers refer to this as "PV jail" and the other cruncher as your "wingman". Sometimes you wait the entire 9 days and your wingman does not report completion and the work is sent out to someone else. Sometimes the wingman reports an errors and again the work is sent out to someone else. Sometimes it is a long wait.

Cheers coffee

Re: Delayed Validation

And there are good news too. If you return enough wu that get validated your computer will be classified as reliable. Then you'll receive wu with quorum 1 too.
Quorum 1 means that this wu is sent only to your computer. If the result returned validates successfully the wu turns to valid real fast.

As also is described in the Help. ;) https://www.worldcommunitygrid.org/help/viewTopic.do?shortName=points#177
After completing 23 WUs without Errors (SCC1_ 0000000_ Bct-A_ and SCC1_ 0000057_ Bct-B_ ) which had to be validated by another result, now i receive the credits and Valid-status in a short time after sending back the result and they are also not send to another cruncher. So my machine seems trusted now. smile

With great power comes great responsibility...

So, if you fail us, you'll come home to your computer being a fish tank...

Enough is not enough... 1 error/invalid and the cycle starts as if it's day 1 again, PLUS, this is at science app level. There's no agreement in the system if the critical number is last 10 or last 20 having to be valid. Both numbers seem to be used at times.

Some have elevated the 'I want to do it alone' to an art and will run the minimum per machine at inception and wait on all being validated before asking for more work. Personally, I cant be bothered to manage that... they'll validate in time, plus the wingmen then too get also closer to reaching the 'repair man' status... eventually all machines have to go through the exercise.
